Overview
The Department of Inpatient Advanced Practice Providers is seeking a pediatric‑trained Advanced Practice Provider to join the growing Pediatric Surgery service at UNM Hospital, the only Level I Trauma Center in New Mexico. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to care for pediatric patients across General Surgery and Pediatric Trauma, serving children and families from across the state. Responsibilities focus on inpatient perioperative management, with one dedicated day each week in the Pediatric Surgery Clinic. We are looking for a motivated, adaptable APP who is passionate about pediatric care and excited to help expand and shape this vital service in the years ahead. Minimum offer: $53.29/hr
Maximum offer: $74.90/hr

Responsibilities
Patient Care
– Assess, diagnose and develop treatment plans; implement treatment, follow‑up and evaluate patient within the scope of practice protocols as outlined by state statute.
Patient Care
– Perform patient history and physical exams as needed for procedures or admissions; document findings noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings.
Patient Care
– Complete admitting orders, daily rounds and orders, consultations with nurses, specialist and ancillary staff, discharge summary, transfers, medication management and other orders as required for the management of patient care.
Patient Care
– Perform invasive and non‑invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Patient Care
– Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic procedures and tests; explain the necessity of preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of procedures to patient and patient’s family.
Patient Care
– Evaluate and revise intervention care/treatment plan with patient and family as necessary to achieve improved health.
Patient Care
– Provide education for patients and/or families about preventative care, medical issues and use of the prescribed medical treatment.
Documentation
– Provide accurate documentation of patient care, document orders, directives, procedures and patient responses in the medical record and communicate them to other members of the health care team; maintain accurate, legible and confidential records.

– Work as a team member with medical
ursing/counseling staff to provide comprehensive care and promote continuity of care.
Education
– Guide, teach, support and serve as a clinical resource nursing and medical staff.

Research
– Support research by conducting or participating in research studies; incorporate findings in clinical practice.

Qualifications
Education:
Essential – Program Graduate
Education specialization – Advanced Nurse or Physician Assistant
Experience:
Essential – 1 year directly related experience
Non‑essential – Bilingual English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo; Specialization in applicable area 3 years directly related experience
Credentials:
Essential – CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers within 30 days
Essential – Advanced Practice RN or Physician Asst Lic & NCCPA Cert
Essential – Pediatric Nursing Certification as applicable
Essential – ACLS or PALS (as applicable) within 30 days of hire
Essential – Prescriptive Authority from the State of New Mexico
Essential – State of New Mexico and Federal DEA Certification
Physical Conditions:
Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Working Conditions:
Essential – Signal Hazard: Chemicals, Bio Hazardous Materials require PPE
Essential – Sub to credential.failure obtain/maintain may result in termination
Essential – 60 days written notice required to be eligible for rehire
