Job Description Summary
Meduflex is MUSC Charleston’s inpatient Float Pool, supporting a wide range of patient care units across the downtown campus. Spanning 10 specialized zones and serving both Adult and Pediatric populations, the team offers Registered Nurses (RNs) flexible scheduling and additional float differential pay. This particular role is within the Adult Critical Care Zone, where you’ll provide care across several high‑acuity units—including the Surgical Trauma Burn ICU, Cardiac ICUs, and both Medical and Surgical ICUs— with occasional floating to Intermediate Care units in the Main Hospital and Ashley River Tower, based on staffing needs.

Job Summary / Purpose
Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal‑directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results.
Minimum Training and Education
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and a minimum of one year of adult critical care work experience as a registered nurse is required. Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to initiate education for BSN within 2 years and complete within four years of hire date. Employees are required to sign an agreement regarding the education requirement.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations
Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Some positions require certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors, working outside in temperature extremes, working from elevated areas, working in confined/cramped spaces, performing from kneeling positions, bending at the waist, twisting at the waist, squatting, pinching operations, gross motor activities with fingers and hands, firm grasping with fingers and hands, fine manipulation with fingers and hands, reaching overhead, repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, fully using both legs, using lower extremities for balance and coordination, reaching in all directions, lifting and carrying 50 lbs unassisted, lifting/lowering objects 50 lbs from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted, lifting from 36 inches to overhead 25 lbs, exerting up to 50 lbs of force, maintaining 20/40 vision corrected in one or both eyes, seeing and recognizing objects close at hand or at a distance, matching or discriminating between colors, determining distance/relationship between objects with depth perception, good peripheral vision, maintaining hearing acuity with correction, performing gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements, dealing effectively with stressful situations, working rotating shifts, working overtime as required, working in a latex safe environment, maintaining tactile sensory functions, maintaining good olfactory sensory function for selected positions, and being qualified physically for respirator use for selected positions.
