Salary:

According to Brooke County Teacher’s Salary Schedule, plus competitive benefits package approximately 35% of direct compensation.

Qualifications

Baccalaureate Science in Nursing Degree (B.S.N.) from an accredited program with West Virginia State license to practice as a Registered Nurse.

Three (3) years experience as a Registered Nurse and Basic Life Support Instructor.

School Nurse certification required by the West Virginia Department of Education.

Performance Responsibilities

Plan school health services to meet students’ needs.

Assess and evaluate total health and developmental status of students.

Provide specialized healthcare services as needed (e.g., suctioning, catheterization).

Train teachers, students, parents, and instructional aides in healthcare services and specialized care.

Deliver school health services at the local level.

Collaborate with principals and teachers to provide health education.

Utilize community healthcare resources for assigned schools.

Comply with health and screening regulations mandated by West Virginia State law.

Document health information for appropriate school personnel and healthcare agencies.

Provide statistical health information for the school health program.

Implement a follow-up program to ensure corrective action on remedial health problems.

Assess immunization status of children entering a West Virginia school for the first time and report to the West Virginia State Health Department Vaccination Control Division.

Identify students at high risk for health problems.

Provide emergency care and first aid to injured and ill students and school personnel; maintain and replenish health supplies.

Counsel with students and parents, confer with teachers and other school personnel to share and interpret student health problems.

Follow up on all abnormalities found and assist parents by referring to appropriate healthcare providers.

Control communicable diseases by observing signs and symptoms and providing follow-up measures; conduct tuberculin testing as required.

Record all health information on permanent record cards; compile health statistics for monthly and annual reports.

Assist in special medical clinics.

Follow up on accident reports submitted by the principals.

Utilize self-appraisal for improvement of administrative skills.

Demonstrate unbiased attitudes in fulfilling administrative responsibilities.

Perform other assignments related to the job as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
