
Medical Lab Technician II

Responsibilities
Perform waived, highly, and moderately complex testing consistent with CLIA regulations.
Adhere to laboratory procedures for collecting, processing, analyzing, and reporting patient test results.
Follow quality control policies, documenting all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance and either correct the issue or immediately notify the supervisor, director, or medical director.
Execute waived or highly and moderately complex laboratory procedures using manual and automated methods in Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, and Immunology.
Perform and document instrument and equipment maintenance on a daily, weekly, monthly, or as-needed basis.
Review the accuracy of patient results prior to release or reporting.
Recognize age‑specific differences in expected results for newborns through geriatrics.
Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested identically to patient samples; collaboration with other laboratories is prohibited before reporting results to the appropriate agencies.
Perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups, from newborn to geriatrics, as required.
Assist in developing and maintaining laboratory policies and procedures.
Adhere to all department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
Act as Lead Technician in the absence of a supervisor, assuming responsibility for the section or department during the shift.
Complete additional tasks or responsibilities assigned by the department manager or director.
Qualifications
Current and valid State License, if required by the laboratory’s location.
ASCP certification or equivalent, preferred.
Associate's Degree in chemical, physical, or biological science, or completion of coursework in a MLT program.
At least 3 years of hospital laboratory work experience.
