Job Summary
Data Center Engineering Technician responsible for maintaining, operating, and troubleshooting mission‑critical data center equipment—including generators, diesel fuel systems, 3‑phase electrical systems, UPSs, PDUs, batteries, cooling and HVAC systems, and fire/life safety equipment—to achieve 99.999% uptime.
Role includes daily building rounds, monitoring Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Management System (EPMS), and performing preventive maintenance, root‑cause analysis, and repairs. Work may involve shifts up to 12 hours, rotation, and on‑call duties. The position may support multiple sites and requires travel between data centers.
Key Responsibilities
Daily building rounds with monitoring of electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment.
Monitor BMS and EPMS for reliability and availability.
Assist in troubleshooting facility and rack‑level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
Perform rack installations and decommissioning within SLA.
Execute preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment.
Document technical procedures to support change management.
Track daily work requests to resolution and execute projects from conception to completion.
Provide on‑site support to contractors, sub‑contractors, and vendors according to established practices.
Work schedule may include up to 12‑hour shifts with possible rotation and on‑call duties.
Support one or more data center locations.
Physical Requirements
Regularly lift or move up to 39 pounds independently.
Participate in group lifts for 40+ pounds.
Perform construction tasks on ladders and uneven terrain.
Walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist, bend, climb stairs, work above shoulders, and grasp, carry, push, and pull objects.
Work in an environment requiring ear protection.
Essential Requirements
Ability to travel or commute between data center locations.
Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training or until assigned facility is operational.
Travel frequency may vary based on business needs and facility status.
Basic Qualifications
2+ years of relevant work experience.
Experience in electrical or mechanical HVAC and infrastructure.
Ability to work flexibly on days, nights, and weekends.
Physical ability to perform required tasks without becoming overly tired.
Preferred Qualifications
4+ years of data center engineering experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
Knowledge of network design, low‑voltage cabling, and system layout.
Experience in reading and writing procedures, technical documents, and engineering drawings.
Associate or higher education in a related field.
