
RN Stepdown/PCU

We are seeking an experienced
Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN)
for a contract opportunity on the night shift. This role is ideal for a skilled nurse with strong critical care and telemetry experience who is passionate about delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. The RN will work in a stepdown/telemetry environment, managing complex patient conditions, including ventilator support, while collaborating with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver safe, high-quality, evidence-based nursing care using the nursing process and clinical judgment
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care, including management of cardiac, telemetry, and ventilator-supported patients
Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to develop and optimize patient care plans
Educate patients and families on treatment plans, discharge instructions, health promotion, and disease prevention
Build and maintain therapeutic relationships while providing compassionate, culturally competent care
Address patient concerns promptly and escalate issues when necessary to ensure optimal patient experience
Perform purposeful rounding and actively engage patients in their care
Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational protocols
Identify risks, escalate safety concerns, and contribute to a safe patient care environment
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support evidence-based practices
Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation
Support unit operations, including patient throughput, resource utilization, and supply management
Perform charge nurse responsibilities as assigned and communicate staffing or operational needs to leadership
Maintain clinical competency through ongoing education and professional development
Participate in team collaboration, committees, and shared governance initiatives
Uphold ethical standards and demonstrate professionalism in all aspects of care
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) - Required
Active RN License of New York - Required
BLS (Basic Life Support) from AHA - Required
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) from AHA - Required
Minimum 2 years of RN experience
At least 2 years of cardiology, telemetry, or stepdown experience
Ventilator (vent) experience – Required (must be clearly listed on resume)
Prior travel experience preferred (not required)
Experience with EPIC EMR – Highly preferred
Strong critical thinking and clinical judgment
Patient care management and assessment skills
Proficiency in clinical interventions and monitoring
Effective communication and teamwork abilities
Important Details:
13-week contract position (extensions available)
Shift is 11.50 hrs/Nights (7 PM - 7:30 AM), 34.50 hrs/week
Location is New York, NY 10029
Pay Range for Locals: $54 - $57 per hour
Pay Range for Travelers: $2,300 - $2,320 per week
