Job Summary
The Political Science faculty member will provide instruction in political science courses to a broad and multifaceted student population while contributing to Phoenix College’s learning‑centered environment. The faculty member will engage students and motivate student success while teaching classes in a variety of modalities using a variety of instruction and assessment methods and technologies. The faculty member will occasionally supervise and mentor students in independent study projects. The faculty member will also provide discipline‑related leadership in political science, including curriculum development and adjunct instructor coordination, evaluation, and mentorship. The position begins in August 2026.
Essential Functions
Teach undergraduate political science courses, including creating course syllabi that satisfy district content requirements, delivering meaningful learning activities, maintaining academic support hours, assessing student performance, and submitting final grades by requisite deadlines.
Lead the political science curriculum, including developing, revising, and maintaining course curriculum, working with the department chair to schedule offerings, and coordinating, evaluating, and mentoring adjunct instructors.
Engage in departmental and campus activities, including supporting colleagues, attending meetings, participating in campus events, and serving on one or more college committees.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduate degree required: Master’s degree in the teaching field, or Master’s degree in any field with 18 graduate credit hours.

Desired Qualifications
Doctoral degree in political science, public policy/administration, or law from an accredited institution.
Experience teaching political science courses (3+ instructional credits each) in a primary instructor role at the college level.
Experience teaching a variety of political science courses at the college level.
Experience teaching in multiple modalities: in‑person, hybrid, fully online.
Experience teaching honors political science courses.
Experience developing, revising, and maintaining political science course curriculum.
Experience working with city, county, and/or state government.
One year of full‑time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two years.
Special Working Conditions
MCCCD does not sponsor any type of work visa.
Work schedule may require evenings and weekends.
Work involves viewing a computer monitor.
Unofficial transcripts must be submitted for consideration.
