Do you have experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)? If so, apply today to be an Extra‑Help Engineering Technician I at the Sonoma County Water Agency (Sonoma Water). The Water Agency Engineering Technician I is the entry‑level class within the Sonoma Water Engineering Technician series.
The Engineering Technician in this Extra‑Help role will use ArcGIS Pro to georeference flight lines for historic aerial photographs, supporting project planning, data accuracy, and archival work.
Responsibilities
Utilizing Python scripting to automate geoprocessing tasks.
Researching historic aerial photo information and archival storage methods.
Scanning paper flight line maps and georeferencing the digitized maps using GIS software.
Creating spatial layers of scanned flight lines and coordinating with other agencies that work with historic aerial photos.
Working with the GIS Team to determine appropriate storage locations for data.
Qualifications
Knowledge of GIS, databases, Python scripting, and/or ESRI ArcGIS Pro.
Some knowledge of historic aerial photos and archiving GIS.
Ability to stay on track with projects while communicating effectively with both the team and the supervisor.
Experience organizing and maintaining GIS datasets and metadata.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and work experience that would provide the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed. Normally, this would include college‑level coursework, or equivalent training, in plane geometry, trigonometry, algebra, CADD, civil engineering, and surveying, or related field(s); and one year of entry‑level paraprofessional experience in surveying, traffic, and/or engineering support work. An Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree, or equivalent with a major in a relevant field is highly desirable.
License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level including special endorsements, as required by the State of California, may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position. (The position advertised does not require possession of a valid California Driver's License.)
