Job Duties
The core responsibilities of this position involve managing large and complex datasets, utilizing GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro), developing and maintaining geodatabases, and creating custom GIS applications. The incumbent will be required to produce maps, plats, and exhibits of the marine environment for the entire agency. This position will support all agency functions, including habitat mapping and restoration projects, patrol planning and resource allocation, aquaculture lease management, fish stock assessment, monitoring fishing activity, and providing analytical support to the Artificial Reef and oyster ground leasing program.
Minimum Qualifications
Produce maps, plats, exhibits and other information relating to the marine environment.
Have 2 years of work experience performing GIS duties; training, certifications or degrees in GIS may substitute for one year of experience.
Proficient in ArcGIS Pro and able to work with large geospatial data sets.
Able to work with a wide diversity of people, including the general public and all levels of the organization.
A college degree in Environmental Science is preferred but not required.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD is preferred but not required.
Additional Considerations
Thorough knowledge of conventional and GPS surveying principles, processing, and mapping mathematics is required. The individual must possess a solid background in computer-based mapping and GIS software and be able to interact with a variety of persons.
