Overview information reflects the responsibilities and requirements for the Environmental Services Aide I role, including patient care support, cleaning and disinfection duties, and compliance with hospital safety and infection control standards.
Responsibilities
Maintain optimum levels of cleanliness and disinfection in patient care, ancillary, and public areas (e.g., patient rooms and bathrooms, nursing stations, lounges, waiting areas, public restrooms, and examination rooms).
Follow the 5-Step Cleaning process and departmental processes; perform dust mopping, damp mopping, floor reconditioning, spot washing of walls, and complete cleaning of patient rooms and furniture.
Dust furniture, wash and polish wooden and metal surfaces, dispose of rubbish properly, and restock supplies as necessary; clean restrooms (toilets, mirrors, countertops, sinks).
Operate cleaning equipment and supplies used by the department for various cleaning or buffing tasks.
Move heavy objects (e.g., beds, desks, copy machines) for cleaning purposes.
Identify medical waste from regular waste and dispose of waste in accordance with hospital regulations.
Perform hand hygiene before and after transport of a patient; wear laboratory coat during patient transport as required.
Escort patients within the Medical Center to and from units via appropriate means of transportation (e.g., wheelchair, bed, stretcher) and assist Nursing with lifting when requested.
Transport deceased patients or residents to the morgue.
Maintain records of assignments, including description of person/item, time of pick-up and delivery, and obtain required signatures.
Ensure safety and comfort of patients (e.g., secure safety straps on wheelchairs/beds, check IV poles and IV bags, ensure patient has proper covers).
Keep equipment (e.g., stretchers, wheelchairs) clean and in good repair.
Participate in mandatory educational and in-service programs.
Customer Service: maintain professionalism, respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, and patience; respond timely and courteously in alignment with Customer Service Performance expectations.
Maintain established departmental policies, safety, environmental, and infection control standards; adhere to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct and Mission, Vision, and Values.
Must possess and maintain Heart Saver Certification and perform lifesaving skills as required.
Position Qualifications
Housekeeping experience is helpful but not required; formal on-the-job training provided.
Minimum of 1 year of previous patient care experience preferred.
Speaks, reads, and writes English to the extent required by the position.
Must possess and maintain Heart Saver Certification and perform lifesaving skills.
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Job Setting / Physical Demands
All areas of the Medical Center.
Extremely heavy physical effort (lift/carry 50 lbs. or more).
Frequent prolonged standing and walking; pushes/pulls or moves/heavy equipment and supplies.
Considerable reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching.
Manual dexterity and mobility; lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary: $19.00 per hour with $1.15 evening
