Position Overview
The College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital at Oklahoma State University is seeking an enthusiastic person with a passion for small animals. Successful candidate will provide clinical assistance to professional staff and administer a variety of treatments to patients admitted to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). Candidates will have the opportunity to participate in one‑on‑one training of veterinary students and work alongside veterinary specialists to provide clients and patients with the highest standard of care.
This position is in the small animal primary care area of the hospital.
Responsibilities
Assist in the care of up to 20 small animal specialists, interns, and residents.
Provide restraint of small and large animals, administer injections, and place IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters.
Operate equipment used within VTH including personal computers, telephones, copy machines, lasers, video endoscopes, diagnostic lab equipment, cameras, electrodiagnostic equipment, etc.
Physically lift animals weighing 50 pounds or greater onto exam tables and into elevated cages.
Support the hospital’s 24‑hour care for domestic and selected exotic and wildlife species.
Required Qualifications
High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date).
Two years related experience; or Associate of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program with two years related experience; or Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences or related area; or DVM degree or equivalent.
Experience in restraint of small and large animals, administering injections, and placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters.
Knowledge of equipment used within VTH.
Physical ability to lift animals 50 pounds or greater.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate's Veterinary Technology.
Five years experience as a Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA or credentials in a specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.
Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) and Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certifications.
