Certified Medical Assistant
Responsible for providing general direct and indirect patient care in a clinical setting under the direct supervision of a physician. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure functionality of practice operations to provide excellent patient care. Ensures medical facilities run smoothly, performs clerical, administrative, or clinical tasks, and may be asked to perform more specialized tasks.
Job Description
Works in a clinical setting, supporting patient intake, documentation, vital sign measurement, specimen collection, and medication administration under physician supervision. Assists with walk‑in and scheduled clinic visits, verifies and records clinical data, and ensures adherence to quality standards. Guides patients through the health care system and helps them arrive at scheduled appointments on time.
Principal Accountabilities
Handles patient intake, updates medical records, and administers appropriate screening tools.
Records medical information and test results, conducts patient interviews, takes and records vital signs, collects specimens, and administers medication under physician supervision.
Assists with walk‑in and scheduled clinic visits, ensures verification and recording of clinical data and adherence to quality standards.
Guides patients through the health care system and helps patients arrive at scheduled appointments on time.
Takes vital signs to establish baselines for future exams.
Assists with examinations, working closely with physicians to perform clinical tasks.
Collects and prepares laboratory samples, instructing patients on sample collection or drawing blood.
Provides excellent communication, work ethic, active listening, adaptability to a fast‑paced environment, and upholds professionalism at all times.
Greets patients, welcomes them to the facility, and schedules appointments.
Maintains medical records, recording patient medical histories and vital signs in the computer system.
Cleans patient rooms, sanitizing and reorganizing rooms between visits.
Prepares examination rooms, ensuring the exam room is ready, disinfecting equipment, and stocking supplies.
Provides emotional support related to the patient's clinical situation in accordance with the patient's plan of care.
Assists with referrals to specialists for diagnosis or treatment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
National Certification CCMA from NHA, AAMA, NAHP, ARMA, AMT, AMCA, or NCCT.
Or a precertification agreement signed if expired or receiving certification within 60 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Medical Care or related field.
1 year of experience in Health Care services.
2+ years experience in an outpatient, ambulatory setting.
Excellent communication, work ethic, active listening, adaptability to a fast‑paced environment, and upholds professionalism at all times.
BLS certification upon hire.
Experience with EPIC or similar EMR system.
Ability to work within computer systems.
