TEMP-Lab/Research Support (Chemistry & Biochemistry)

Job Summary
Provide support services in the operation and maintenance of an academic or research laboratory, including performing analyses; setup, operation, maintenance and cleaning of equipment; and maintaining stock of supplies. Specific duties will be determined based on assignment and unit needs. This position will interact on a consistent basis with academic and/or research faculty members, staff and students.
Responsibilities
Setup, operate and maintain instruments and other equipment used in performing lab tests and experiments.
Order supplies and materials as required; maintain records.
Setup laboratory media/equipment for demonstrations.
May clean instruments, glassware and other lab equipment.
Prepare and process laboratory samples for use in assigned tests.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma, GED Certificate or Vocational School Diploma.
Up to two years of job‑related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education: B.S. degree in life sciences, chemistry, biological physics, or related field.
Preferred Work Experience: research laboratory experience (e.g. undergraduate research).
Preferred Skills: organization, time management, Microsoft Office, written communication, oral communication.
Additional Tasks
Molecular biology: PCR, cloning, DNA analysis, strain stocks.
Expression of proteins in E. coli.
Tissue culture of mammalian cells.
Purification of proteins.
Gel electrophoresis.
Biochemical assays.
Protein crystallization.
Other solution biophysical methods (spectroscopy).
Use lab computers and software to record data, perform data analysis, and complete results for presentation and review.
Ordering lab supplies and ensuring delivery.
Coordinating instrument repair.

This is not a supervisory position.
This position does not have any financial responsibilities.
This position will not be required to drive.
This role is not considered a position of trust.
This position does not require a purchasing card (P‑Card).
This position will not travel.
This position does not require security clearance.
Salary
This is an hourly position. Salary is $18.03/hr.
