Overview
SUNY Maritime College is currently seeking temporary personnel as Regimental Duty Officer during this year's summer training aboard TS Empire State. The training lasts approximately 85 days for the full term, or for each half, with duties adapting to the ship's needs and incumbents' background.

Job Details
Empire State is a public vessel used for the training and licensure of cadet midshipmen. Cadets engage in classroom lectures, maintenance, watches, drills, and training exercises in preparation for licensure. Of the 580 cadets onboard, approximately 20% may be in ROTC and preparing for commissioning in the Armed Services after graduation and licensure.

Responsibilities

Mentor and train cadets completing sea term activities

Perform various administrative duties that support cadets and ship's officers

Assist in developing and completing port-call activities (if applicable)

Serve on watch for alcohol testing and gangway watches

Complete daily health and safety inspections of cadet berthing and common areas

Supervise cleaning details (AM/PM)

Participate in daily musters and accountability evolutions

Assist in completing the daily "plan of the day" information

Support the Senior Regimental Officer Afloat and other Regimental Officers in daily duties afloat and in-port

Assist in determining random alcohol testing procedures/listings and testing

Participate on the Ship's Safety Committee

The training days are designed to maximize cadet experience, with flexibility required in daily scheduling of duties. The full cruise appointment is anticipated to begin April 27, 2026, and end July 20, 2026. Applicants may be considered for Cruise A Half (April 27, 2026 – June 9, 2026), Cruise B Half (June 10, 2026 – July 20, 2026), or Full Cruise (April 27, 2026 – July 20, 2026). Qualifications

Member or former member of the United States Military or Merchant Marine (Active Duty/Reserve/Veteran)

Demonstrated leadership with excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills; ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks

Demonstrated organizational skills and good communication

Models appropriate character and strong ethics through disciplined behavior and professional appearance

Experience with clerical and administrative duties

US Passport

TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)

Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC)

Valid Medical Certificate (issued with the MMC and renewed every 2 years)

DOT/USCG Periodic Drug Testing documentation or evidence of prior compliant drug testing as required by 46 CFR 16.230 and 46 CFR 16.210 within the specified periods
