
Assistant Controller

Overview
The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in overseeing daily accounting operations and ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP. This role plays a key part in month-end close, financial statement preparation, internal controls, and process improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced corporate accounting environment while partnering cross-functionally with finance and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with oversight of the general ledger, including preparation, review, and approval of journal entries and accounting transactions
Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving reconciling items
Assist with the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements in accordance with GAAP
Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, partnering with management to explain fluctuations
Maintain and enhance internal controls, ensuring compliance with accounting policies and procedures
Assist with external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting, including preparation of PBC schedules
Review and support accounts payable, accrued expenses, and payroll-related entries for accuracy and completeness
Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and efficiency gains within accounting operations
Support documentation of accounting policies, procedures, and workflows to mitigate key person risk
Assist the Controller with ad hoc analysis, special projects, and cross-functional initiatives
Qualifications
Required/Preferred qualifications derived from responsibilities: knowledge of GAAP, experience with month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, financial statement preparation, budgeting and forecasting, internal controls, and coordination with audits and regulatory filings. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, detail-oriented, hands-on, and capable of partnering with management and cross-functional teams.
