Description
UCSD Department of Psychiatry seeks an assistant researcher to support the HIV Neurobehavioral Research Program (HNRP) – Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research (CMCR). The role involves coordinating day‑to‑day study operations, including participant recruitment, data collection, and management of research protocols related to the impact of commercially‑available cannabis products on driving performance and cognition.
Responsibilities
Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) and HNRP supervisory personnel with study coordination and implementation.
Determine participant eligibility and track recruitment goals.
Administer standardized driving simulations, neuropsychological tests, and psychiatric/substance‑use interviews.
Ensure accuracy of data, resolve discrepancies, and maintain data integrity.
Help prepare and manage Institutional Review Board (IRB) materials.
Serve as liaison between multidisciplinary investigators and administrative staff.
Assist with database management, data analysis, and manuscript preparation.
Support PI with new proposals, grant submissions, progress reports, and regulatory renewals.
Assist with day‑long experimental visits, including repeated driving and cognitive assessments, in collaboration with medical staff for vital sign and biospecimen collection.
Perform additional duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Theoretical knowledge of neuropsychology, neurosciences, substance use, infectious diseases (e.g., HIV), or related fields.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and enrollment in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
Willingness to operate a mobile assessment vehicle (large van) to community locations.
Experience administering neurobehavioral assessments, psychological tests, or psychiatric interviews.
Proficiency with word processing, graphics, statistical, and database programs.
Proven ability to conduct data collection, tracking, interpretation, and presentation.
Knowledge of basic statistical concepts and ability to perform analyses.
Proficiency in implementing research data collection forms and questionnaires.
Strict confidentiality practices.
Ability to conduct comprehensive literature reviews using multiple media sources.
Excellent interpersonal skills for working independently, prioritizing tasks, and handling confidential information in a fast‑paced environment.
Excellent writing and editorial skills.
Experience coordinating day‑long experimental visits in collaboration with medical staff.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual in English and Spanish with ability to administer tests in both languages.
Experience working with individuals infected with HIV and substance‑dependent populations.
Special Conditions
Employment subject to criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.
Willingness to interact with participants who may have history of substance dependence, psychiatric conditions, housing instability, or HIV infection.
Availability for weekend, evening, and overtime as needed.
Willingness to drive a Sprinter van to field locations.
Pay Transparency
Annual full pay range: $59,905 – $71,451 (prorated if appointment percent
Hourly equivalent: $28.69 – $34.22.
