Pharmacy Technician I
Overview
Due to growth, we are adding a Pharmacy Technician I to our team. Under direction from the Pharmacist‑in‑Charge and other pharmacists in the Specialty Pharmacy, the Pharmacy Technician I is primarily responsible for assisting the pharmacist in obtaining all the necessary information for dispensing and adjudicating a medication correctly. The main objective is to answer phone calls and contact doctors and patients via fax or phone to accurately translate prescription information into the pharmacy dispensing software.
The Pharmacy Technician I may also be responsible for selecting the medication to be dispensed, attaching the prescription label, and ensuring all prescription information is packaged with the medication before the pharmacist’s final check. The Pharmacy Technician I may also obtain and verify patient information including demographics, allergies, medication history, comorbidities, and payer information.
Responsibilities
Answer inbound calls from patients, prescribers, and other healthcare professionals.
Contact doctors to obtain necessary prescription information to properly fill a prescription.
Manage queues and work oldest orders first.
Ensure correct shipment of the specialty pharmacy orders.
Maintain adequate inventory of pharmaceutical in the pharmacy, including ordering, receipt, verification of orders, and stocking of pharmaceutical supplies.
Act in accordance with all applicable federal and state laws and with the highest ethical standards.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; National CPhT and/or registration/licensure required per state requirements.
Minimum two years of pharmacy support experience or healthcare environment experience preferred.
Participation in, adherence to, and support of compliance program objectives.
Ability to consistently interact cooperatively and respectfully with other employees.
