
Respiratory Therapist - OLGMC Respiratory Therapy - Full Time

Ochsner Health seeks a Respiratory Therapist to provide respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support to patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric.
Responsibilities
Deliver respiratory care treatment, oxygen therapies, and ventilation support for in‑patients and out‑patients.
Set up, monitor, and wean oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation.
Collect, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs.
Administer intermittent therapy and assist with changing artificial airways.
Perform routine and advanced therapeutic procedures per established policies.
Document and review all clinical information for each patient.
Educate patients and co‑workers on procedures and treatment plans.
Provide care using physical, psycho/social, educational, and safety criteria appropriate to the patient’s age.
Adapt communication and behavior to specific patient populations.
Perform additional related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
Education:
Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Experience:
None required.
Certifications:
Current state license as a Respiratory Therapist.
Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care (Registered Respiratory Therapist).
Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days of hire.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification for NICU‑trained therapists.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Computer skills for data entry and retrieval.
Effective verbal and written communication; ability to present information clearly.
Proficiency with Windows applications and role‑specific software.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Physical and Environmental Demands
Very heavy work, including lifting objects >100 lb occasionally and >50 lb frequently.
Stooping, bending, reaching, and gripping with arms and hands.
Prolonged standing or sitting.
Travel throughout and between facilities.
Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, on‑call.
Exposure to blood, body fluids, possible communicable diseases, hazardous medications, and waste.
