Summary
The Carpenter position is part of the Activations and Operations Team of the Maintenance and Operations Section – Facilities Management. The incumbent receives little or no instructions in the performance of assigned tasks. Duties include general carpentry: cabinet installations and repairs, laminate installations and repairs, drywall installation and finishing.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Experience: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of sufficient training or experience to perform the duties. Evidence must be supported by detailed descriptions on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Job Elements include: equipment assembly, installation, repair; interpreting instructions and specifications (including blueprint reading); materials and measuring instruments; technical practices; use and maintenance of tools and equipment. Experience, including paid, unpaid, volunteer, and national service work, will be credited the same.

Responsibilities

Design, fabricate and install cabinets, shelves, benches, displays, frames, etc.

Set door frames, hang doors, cut door openings in masonry walls, install locks and panic hardware, lay floor tile, replace/ install ceiling tile, mount and adjust door closers.

Hang and finish drywall.

Construct walls and repair damaged walls (holes, cracks, broken gypsum board).

Construct and repair plaster and drywall ceilings.

Repair, replace floor tile and ceiling tile; repair floors, expansion joints, furniture, etc.

Maintain and clean all tools and equipment to ensure safe work practices and prevent injury or property damage.

Use tools and equipment such as skill saws, cut‑off and rip saws, drills, spray guns, planers, joiner, shaper, drill press, belt sander.

Stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

Lifting, carrying and setting up equipment weighing up to 10 pounds; occasionally handling materials that weigh 40 pounds or more.

Member of the travel team, performing work at satellite locations throughout Middle Tennessee.

Work schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM.

Physical requirements include lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying objects of varying weights, sizes and shapes.

Working conditions include lighting, heating and ventilation in work area; exposure to heat, restricted ventilation, and poor illumination in equipment rooms; outdoor exposure to dust, grease, soiling, noise, vibration, gases, fumes and other hazards.
