Job Description and Responsibilities
Provide leadership in the administration of a major multi-functional area of a community college, including resource development and personnel management, in accordance with laws, regulations, District policy and collective bargaining agreements.
Provide leadership and vision for the campus Student Equity Plan and its activities, programs and services.
Coordinate student success initiatives for the college with District and college personnel; assist with development and implementation of innovative approaches; ensure accountability and accuracy for reports related to Student Equity; collaborate with the Director of Institutional Research on student equity attributes in management information systems and related data resources and requirements.
Formulate and develop long- and short-range goals and strategic plans for the instructional area; plan, organize, and manage the operations and activities of student equity and achievement services; oversee college programs and services for disproportionately impacted student communities.
Develop and implement plans and policies to facilitate, improve and promote the curriculum, programs and services of the instructional area; maintain instructional standards of quality.
Supervise the planning, development and recommendation of new courses; review standing courses and delete courses no longer appropriate to the curriculum; maintain current course outlines to reflect instructional programs, including online courses.
Develop and prepare class schedules, room and instructor assignments and class sections offered in day, extended day, weekends, and intersessions.
Interact with students to address concerns related to division programs, courses, and employees; respond to student issues related to student conduct, behavioral intervention, and Title IX.
Develop and prepare the annual preliminary instructional area budget; monitor and control budget expenditures; prepare and maintain detailed reports, records and files regarding personnel, facilities, programs, operations and activities; oversee program budgets for categorical, federal, state and private grants related to Student Equity and disproportionately impacted student groups.
Determine equipment and supplies needs; submit textbook lists and requests for instructional resources; monitor inventories.
Conduct outreach activities and serve as a liaison with local high schools and community agencies to promote program enrollment and effectiveness; develop publications relating to Student Equity and assigned programs.
Maintain communication with District and college administrators, faculty and staff to resolve conflicts and coordinate division activities.
Train, supervise, evaluate and direct personnel; participate in selection and hiring processes.
Plan staff development programs and orientation for new employees; organize and chair administrative and staff meetings; collaborate with student/academic support programs to meet equity goals and maximize funding opportunities.
Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies relevant to assigned programs; apply emerging technologies to perform duties efficiently.
Demonstrate sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of students and staff; promote an inclusive, equity-minded work and learning environment.
Provide leadership to increase diversity of faculty and staff and to address student achievement gaps.
Perform related duties as assigned; participate in development and administration of external funding sources from grants, corporate sponsorships, and donations.

Primary Purpose:
Under the direction of the appropriate Vice President, perform a variety of administrative and supervisory duties for a major division, supporting district strategic directions and equity initiatives.
Working Relationships:
Maintains contact with college and District administrators, faculty and staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of District organization, operations, policies and objectives
Knowledge of California education code and Title 5 requirements
Knowledge of research project policies, procedures and practices, including data collection and analysis
Knowledge of English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary
Knowledge of educational pedagogy and student success strategies for a diverse community college student body
Knowledge of record keeping, budget preparation and maintenance
Knowledge of software and databases; ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures
Ability to analyze and evaluate research project activities
Ability to plan, organize, prioritize work and meet deadlines
Ability to work independently and follow oral and written directions
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally
Ability to supervise and train others; establish effective working relationships
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
At least one year of formal training, internship or leadership experience related to the assignment
Commitment to diversity and demonstrated sensitivity to diverse backgrounds of students, faculty and staff
Desirable Qualifications
Advanced degree in Ethnic Studies or related discipline with expertise in race, ethnicity, equity, or social justice
Teaching experience in Ethnic Studies or related fields at an accredited post-secondary institution
Experience in management or leadership of an academic program or student support program, including curriculum coordination
Experience with budget, grant management, fundraising and reporting
Experience with community outreach and partnerships related to service learning and K-16 collaboration
Equity-minded approach to work and interactions
Schedule, Salary and Dates
Salary Range:
$173,668 - $219,166 Annually
