Salary Range: $173,668 – $219,166 annually.
Primary Purpose
Under the direction of the appropriate Vice President, the Dean of Ethnic Studies & Student Equity leads a major multi‑functional division in the college, supporting the District‑wide strategic directions, goals, and core values outlined in the EFMP. The role oversees college programs and services that advance equity initiatives, diversity objectives, and successful goal completion for targeted student populations.
Responsibilities
Provide leadership in the administration of the division, including resource development and personnel management in accordance with laws, regulations, District policy, and collective bargaining agreements.
Develop and implement the campus Student Equity Plan, coordinating innovative approaches and ensuring accountability and accuracy of reports related to Student Equity.
Collaborate with the Director of Institutional Research regarding student equity attributes in management information systems and related data resources.
Formulate long‑ and short‑range goals and strategic plans for staffing, facilities, curriculum, and educational philosophy.
Plan, organize, and manage the operations and activities of student equity and achievement services, including oversight of programs for disproportionately impacted student communities.
Develop and implement plans and policies to improve and promote the curriculum, programs, and services of the division, maintaining instructional standards of quality.
Supervise course planning, review standing courses, recommend deletion of outdated courses, and maintain current course outlines, including online courses.
Prepare class schedules, room and instructor assignments, and class sections for day, extended‑day, weekend, and intersession offerings.
Interact with students to address concerns related to division programs, courses, and staff, responding to student issues involving conduct, behavioral intervention, and Title IX.
Develop and prepare the annual preliminary budget; monitor and control expenditures; maintain detailed reports, records, and files on personnel, facilities, programs, operations, and activities.
Oversee budget development for categorical programs, federal, state, and private grants related to Student Equity and disproportionately impacted student groups.
Determine equipment and supplies in accordance with policies, submit textbook lists and requests for supplementary materials, and manage inventories.
Conduct outreach activities and serve as liaison with local high schools and community agencies to promote enrollment and program effectiveness.
Prepare publications related to Student Equity that aim to eliminate disproportionate impacts.
Maintain communication with District and college administrators, faculty, and classified staff to resolve conflicts and coordinate division activities.
Train, supervise, evaluate, and direct the work of personnel; participate in selection and hiring processes.
Plan staff development programs and activities for faculty and staff; provide orientation for new employees.
Organize, attend, or chair administrative meetings; serve on committees; provide oversight of special projects or programs.
Collaborate with student and academic support programs to deliver equity activities and ensure the college fulfills its responsibility of meeting equity goals.
Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies; apply emerging technologies to perform duties efficiently.
Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the disabilities and diverse backgrounds of students.
Lead efforts to increase faculty and staff diversity, address student achievement gaps, and create a welcoming inclusive environment.
Support external funding sources from grants, corporate sponsorships, and donations.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
At least one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the assignment.
Commitment to diversity; demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.
Desirable Qualifications
Advanced degree in Ethnic Studies, American Indian Studies, African American Studies, Asian American Studies, Chicana/o Latina/o Studies, or a closely related discipline with expertise in race, ethnicity, equity, or social justice.
Demonstrated teaching experience in Ethnic Studies or related fields at an accredited post‑secondary institution.
Experience in the management, coordination, or leadership of an academic program, community organization, or student support program/center, including collaboration with faculty on curriculum and educational programs that respond to historically underrepresented students.
Experience with budget and grant management, monitoring expenditures, reporting, and fundraising and grant procurement.
Experience with community outreach and partnering with community‑based and social justice organizations related to service learning, civic engagement, internships, programming, and building K‑16 collaborations.
Prior experience in approaching work and interactions with colleagues and students in an equity‑minded manner, providing an inclusive and welcoming learning environment.
