Summary
The VA Amarillo Health Care System is seeking a Dermatologist for the location in Amarillo, TX.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA physicians who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education: Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
License: Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
Residency Training: Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and eligible for appointment as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) if they meet other PRP requirements.
PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis.
PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged.
English Language Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience: Board certified, experience at Amarillo VAMC, and supervision of dermatology residents treating patients with dermatologic conditions.
Leadership skills to complete ongoing professional evaluations.
Experience implementing policies and protocols required in medicine.
Experience improving management of flow with dermatology patients referred from primary care.
Physical Requirements: Light lifting and carrying under 15 pounds; use of fingers; both hands and legs required; walking, standing, hearing (aid may be permitted); ability to see a computer.

Duties
Focus on researching, diagnosing, and treating skin disorders and diseases.
Complete patient examinations and perform minor skin surgeries.
Prescribe topical medication for skin problems.
Perform dermatological procedures, carefully considering factors such as type of skin growth, location, size, number, aggressiveness of tumor, patient’s general health, side effects, complications, benefits, cure rate, and dermatologist’s experience.
Conduct thorough examinations and gather clinical, laboratory, and other pertinent data to determine appropriate care.
Interpret clinical data to determine diagnosis and clinical status.
Prescribe appropriate and timely treatments and apply indicated therapeutic procedures.
Monitor changes in behavior, symptoms, signs, and modify treatment plans as needed.
Recognize own capabilities and limitations.
Be readily available for emergencies, quickly recognizing emergency situations and taking timely action, with active certification in BLS, ACLS, or both as required.
Develop and maintain rapport with patients and relatives; involve patients as informed participants in treatment.
Recognize need for consultation and utilize facility or clinic specialty skills for diagnosis and treatment.
Respond to inpatient/outpatient consultations promptly, document consultations, and collaborate with primary team or clinician.
Maintain accurate and timely record keeping, including history/physical, progress notes, orders, encounters, and consult closure.
Use the Computerized Patient Record System and ensure all encounters and notes are completed daily.
Work Schedule
Monday to Friday, 0800 to 1630.
