Highway Maintenance Specialist position in Eagle County, CO. CDOT has a vacancy for a Highway Maintenance Specialist in Eagle County, CO.
This position may live in any location in Colorado and travel to the I-70 corridor to work the following schedule. This position will spend up to eight months out of the year working in the Joint Operation Area along the I-70 mountain corridor.
The position will work on the corridor from October 1 through May 30 depending on weather conditions. While working on the corridor, the rotating two-week work schedule will consist of working 12-hour shifts for 6 days, 4-hour shifts for two days (for travel to/from the corridor), and 6 days off. This is a seasonal winter permanent position.
The position works full-time typically from October through May each year and does not work June through September each year.
Salary : The starting salary for this position is
$25.68/hour . When working at the Joint Operation Area, this position will receive a per diem, and CDOT will arrange for employees to stay in a hotel in Eagle County.
What You Will Do
No two days are the same in CDOT highway maintenance. Daily activities vary by project, weather, environment, and road conditions. You will be on-call on a rotating basis and may be required to respond to weather and other emergencies. You will typically work in a team environment with at least one lead highway maintenance specialist and multiple highway maintenance specialists. Your main job activities include:
Plowing snow
Operating heavy equipment, such as tandem dump truck, loader, tractor mower, etc.
Mowing grass and weeds
Removing debris from roadways, including rock, mud, and deceased animals
Removing debris from culverts, tunnels, etc.
Shoveling gravel, sand, concrete, and asphalt
Digging ditches
Installing and repairing guardrail, highway markers and signs, warning signs, and lighting
Filling potholes and roadway cracks
Setting out signs and cones for traffic control
Removing and covering graffiti
Installing pavement markings/striping
Stopping or slowing traffic in emergency situations
Maintaining equipment and performing minor repairs
Following safety guidance and wearing proper safety equipment

Must be willing and physically able to work in extreme temperatures (hot and cold), variable weather conditions, and at elevations up to 12,000 feet for long periods

Conditions of Employment
Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B with no restriction on air brakes that allows operation within Colorado.
If you have a non-Colorado CDL, you must be eligible to drive in Colorado with your CDL at time of hire. If you relocate to Colorado, you must transfer your CDL within 30 days.
Must pass pre-employment screening (may include SSN trace, criminal records, public court records, educational records, and driving records). More information in the supplemental information section.
