Position Summary
The Small animal Internal Medicine Veterinary Assistant will provide animal care via feed, water, walk, transport, restrain, groom. Stocking of area and supplies, maintain clinical records, assure facility cleanliness, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with senior veterinary staff.

Responsibilities
Tasked with patient management, record maintenance, and facility support.

Duties and Time Allocation

Patient Management (65%) : Manage all aspects of the patient's treatment and assist Licensed Veterinary Technicians in nursing care; includes physical examinations, phlebotomy, sample collection, medication and fluid administration, critical thinking for case management. Provide intermediate animal care: walk, water, feed, transport, restrain, groom. Lift up to 50 lbs.

Clinical Records (25%) : Maintain records via written chart recording and input charges into proprietary software database.

Supply and Cleanliness (10%) : Stock supplies of cleaning products and patient care equipment, ensure facility cleanliness using mop, broom, chemical cleaning supplies to sanitize cages and floors.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Experience in handling animals in a patient care setting.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
Properly handle and restrain various species of animals, understanding of basic animal health terminology, effective communication skills.

Physical Demands

Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently during the day on hard floor surfaces.

Manual dexterity sufficient to accurately work with small, delicate pieces of equipment or large heavy objects/containers/machinery.

Wear all protective gear including mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles, etc.

Work with wound care equipment, cleaning solutions, and other materials to prevent infections.
