NOTE: This vacancy has two openings at the Transportation Program Specialist 1 level. Each vacancy has an assigned schedule. The schedules consist of four 10-hour shifts per week, on specific days as listed below:

Week 1 Wednesday & Thursday: 4am 2pm; Friday, Saturday, Sunday: Off; Monday & Tuesday: 4am 2pm
Week 2 Wednesday: Off; Thursday & Friday: 4am 2pm; Saturday: 10am 8pm; Sunday: 9am 7pm; Monday & Tuesday: Off

Job Description: This position works within the Operations Center of the Regional Transportation Management Center (RTMC).
The primary responsibilities will be to:
Operate the RTMC's Traffic Management Systems in Metro area, dispatch the Freeway Incident Response Team drivers, to inform motorists of traffic problems, road work, and incidents.
Assist MnDOT Maintenance Dispatch and State Patrol Dispatch in locating traffic incidents on metro area freeways.
Minimum Qualifications
To qualify, Transportation Program Specialist 1 applicants must meet one of the following and all the requirements outlined below:
One (1) year of professional (MAPE 05L or higher) experience demonstrating the requirements listed below.
OR
Two (2) years of advanced clerical (61L and higher) experience demonstrating the requirements listed below.
OR
Two (2) years of technical or para-professional experience demonstrating the requirements listed below.
Experience as a call-taker or dispatcher in a public safety dispatch center, reporting for a traveler information center, as a freeway incident responder, or in another similar function. Work experience must also demonstrate:
Comprehensive knowledge of the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area freeway system sufficient to direct responding agency to location of call.
Written communication skills in English sufficient to create e-mails and reports using appropriate spelling and grammar.
If advanced to the finalist pool, you will be assessed on the following criteria, as well as on your experience and training, during the job interview:
Oral communication skills in English sufficient to communicate clearly and concisely over a telephone, two-way radio and in person with the motoring public, FIRST drivers, State Patrol, and other responding agencies.
Ability to work in a fast paced, stressful environment, with minimal supervision.
Ability to multi-task in high pressure situations and to make sound decisions using all available information.
Ability to detect, locate and confirm precise details of traffic incidents using MnDOT traffic cameras, speed detection data and other information sources and act accordingly on information received.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a FIRST driver or State Patrol Radio Communication Operator (dispatcher).
Previous experience using CCTV surveillance cameras and/or monitoring public safety radio transmissions.
