
Continuous Improvement Specialist

The Continuous Improvement Specialist is responsible for driving operational excellence across the organization by leading and supporting continuous improvement (CI) initiatives. This role partners with cross-functional teams to implement Lean principles, enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and deliver measurable financial and operational results. The specialist serves as a change agent, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and building organizational capability through training, coaching, and leadership.
The Continuous Improvement Specialist operates across all functional areas of the organization, with a primary focus on manufacturing, production, maintenance, and quality operations. This role is responsible for identifying, prioritizing, and executing improvement initiatives that drive sustainable performance gains.
Key Elements Of Scope Include
Leading site-level and cross-functional CI initiatives aligned with strategic and financial objectives
Supporting daily operations by addressing performance gaps, production challenges, and process inefficiencies
Driving the adoption and sustainability of Lean methodologies and CI tools across departments
Acting as a subject matter expert and primary resource for continuous improvement practices at the site
Collaborating with leadership to identify opportunities, define project charters, and track measurable outcomes
Building organizational capability through coaching, training, and mentoring to ensure long-term self-sufficiency in CI practices
Responsibilities
Support and lead company-wide continuous improvement initiatives, providing strategic direction and hands‑on execution
Develop, implement, and sustain CI programs based on Lean principles to support business and financial goals
Establish and maintain systems and processes that deliver consistent year‑over‑year improvements
Troubleshoot and resolve production and operational issues, including downtime, line stoppages, and equipment malfunctions
Drive a culture of continuous improvement by embedding best practices across the organization
Partner with cross‑functional teams to identify opportunities and implement solutions that improve efficiency and performance
Facilitate and lead CI activities such as Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen events, Standard Work development, and Visual Management initiatives
Apply and teach root cause analysis and structured problem‑solving methodologies to prevent recurrence of issues
Collaborate with departments, including production, maintenance, and quality, to ensure alignment and effective execution of CI projects
Work with management to develop project charters, define goals, and ensure accountability for results
Track, measure, and report on improvement initiatives, including cost savings and performance metrics
Train and coach employees at all levels to build CI knowledge and capability across the organization
Share best practices and foster strong relationships across CI teams and stakeholders
Qualifications
Strong leadership, influencing, and situational leadership skills
Ability to build relationships and drive change across all organizational levels, from shop floor to leadership
Self‑motivated with the ability to take initiative and make informed decisions independently
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present and represent CI initiatives effectively
Proven ability to foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence
Analytical mindset with strong problem‑solving capabilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with tools such as Microsoft Project or Minitab preferred
Willingness to pursue continuous improvement certifications (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma)
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Business, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
5–10 years of experience in a manufacturing, production, or corporate operations environment
Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on experience leading or executing continuous improvement or Lean Six Sigma initiatives
Demonstrated success in delivering measurable improvements in efficiency, effectiveness, and financial performance
