The Role
Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as AutoCAD, CAM, AutoDesk. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.
Must Have
Associate’s degree or other 2‑year technical degree in a related discipline and 1 year of experience.
One of the following may be used as equivalent to an Associate’s degree: 2 years of related manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades, or military experience (high school/GED), or 4 years of non‑related experience.
Nice to Have
Working knowledge of Electrical/Electronics systems on U.S. Navy Surface Combatants.
Computer skills and ability to communicate effectively when interfacing with other disciplines during the drawing development process.
Ability to provide detailed mark‑ups to support drawing development.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft products.
Ability to work alone or as part of a team with minimum supervision during off‑site obligations.
Ability to obtain confidential clearance required.
