Job Summary/Description:

Sarasota’s ABC7 is hiring a REPORTER/MMJ. You’ll break news on digital, push it on social platforms, and add immediacy and context live in our newscasts. Ultimately, you’ll tell people stories vital to Florida’s Gulf Coast.

WWSB-TV / ABC7 in Sarasota, Florida, is searching for our next Multi-Media Journalist. This person should consider themselves both a Digital First innovator and a Lead Story Reporter.

Our MMJs are team players and serve our community. They partner with producers and managers to break and ultimately update their coverage. Most stories are day‑turns, but we also want to grow a culture of planning, yielding special enterprise coverage.

As an MMJ, you’ll go live multiple times a day. Our teammates are just as comfortable delivering breaking news in the field as they are from our newsroom and our CTV / Live Desk.

You’ll be expected to strive for excellence with lighting, visual sequencing, including natural sound and emotionally driven soundbites. We want you to focus on lead stories by developing strong sources.

Ultimately, this is a chance to challenge yourself, have fun, and track your growth. A positive attitude and ability to engage our audience on‑air and on digital platforms is a must.

NOTE: WWSB-TV monitors and regularly covers extreme weather threats, including strong Tropical Storms and Hurricanes. All journalists play a vital role in the ABC7 newsroom response, helping connect viewers and digital users with life‑saving news and information. Safety is always our top priority, and all teammates and management are required to be present at the station to serve our local community before, during, and after a storm.

Duties/Responsibilities

Develop and maintain contacts with local newsmakers and experts

Pitched confirmed ideas in daily editorial meetings

Shoot, edit, and file assigned news reports in television, digital, and social formats

Produce live enterprise and breaking stories using MMJ workflowsDeliver content with clean, engaging, and thoughtful delivery

Write and post real‑time updates on digital and social platforms

Engage the audience through social channels and personal appearances

Ability to partner with newsroom managers and teammates, and to work in a team

Maintain assigned gear and news vehicle, including filing reports and dropping off gear/car for service when needed.

Qualifications/Requirements

Excellent writing, storytelling, and editing skills

Solid news judgment

Must be able to report in a broad range of styles with good on‑air presentation skills

Work under pressure

Familiarity with all distribution platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, etc.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism or equivalent is required

Motor Vehicle Records checks are required
