Job Duties:

The Student Accounts Specialist supports the financial operations of the University Bursar/Cashier Office by reviewing, approving, and advising on complex financial transactions. This role ensures accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial processing, reconciles transactions, maintains records, and provides exceptional customer service to students, faculty, and staff.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Respond to advanced financial inquiries and provide guidance based on policies

Audit, monitor, and maintain fiscal records, reports, and supporting documentation

Review and process complex financial transactions, assigning proper funding sources

Evaluate and recommend improvements to transaction processing controls

Draft communications and reports for internal and external stakeholders

Reconcile billing, payments, and purchase documentation

Support daily cashiering functions, including deposits and balancing activities

Reallocate expenses to correct funding strings and resolve discrepancies

Required Qualifications:

Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; or equivalent work experience

2+ years of professional experience in financial operations, accounting, or cashiering

Strong knowledge of financial principles, reconciliation processes, and internal controls

Experience with financial systems and reporting tools

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in higher education bursar or cashier operations

Familiarity with student account systems and university financial policies

Advanced spreadsheet and financial reporting skills

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent organizational, communication, and time management abilities

Ability to handle sensitive financial information with integrity

Customer-focused with ability to explain complex financial information clearly

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Work Environment:

Office setting with regular interaction with students, faculty, and staff

Occasional extended hours during peak billing or fiscal periods

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work

Occasional lifting of office or cashiering materials
