Betsy & Adam is a New York–based eveningwear brand designing dresses for life’s most meaningful moments, from weddings and galas to every RSVP in between. We’re looking for a Design Assistant to join our team and support the development of our collections from first concept through final production.
Design Assistant – Key Responsibilities (Eveningwear)
Support the design team at Betsy & Adam in the development of seasonal eveningwear collections from concept through production
Assist in the creation and maintenance of tech packs, ensuring accuracy in construction details, embellishments, and fabrications
Organize and maintain design boards, color stories, fabric swatches, and trim libraries (lace, beading, sequins, etc.)
Track sample development with overseas and domestic vendors, including proto, SMS, and TOP stages, ensuring timely follow-up
Prepare presentation boards and materials for internal reviews, buyer meetings, and market appointments
Conduct ongoing trend and market research within the occasionwear space (prom, bridal party, social occasion, red carpet)
Assist with photoshoots, including styling looks on models and ensuring all garments are presented to brand standards
Assist in maintaining an efficient and organized workflow within the in-house backroom, partnering closely with sewers, drapers, and cutters
Collaborate with production and merchandising teams to ensure design intent, cost targets, and delivery timelines are achieved
Communicate with factories and vendors regarding sample updates, corrections, embellishment placement, and fabrications
Qualifications / Skills (Eveningwear Focus)
Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or related field
3+ years of experience in a design or assistant design role, preferably in eveningwear or occasion dressing
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator/ Photoshop a plus
Strong understanding of eveningwear construction, draping, and specialty fabrics (chiffon, satin, stretch, beaded textiles)
Exceptional attention to detail, particularly with intricate embellishments and finishing
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple styles and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
