Sales And Marketing Specialist

Mainland, Chicago, IL, United States

We are not hiring a traditional PR person. We are hiring a closer.

At Mainland, media is not about “sending pitches.” It’s about creating outcomes. Our clients hire us to get them seen, heard, and validated in the market. That requires people who are relentless, creative, and wired to win.

If you think of media like a sales pipeline, this role is for you.

What You’ll Do
  • Pitch media daily across national, trade, and local outlets
  • Treat journalists like a pipeline, build relationships, follow up, and close
  • Turn client stories into angles that actually get picked up
  • Secure interviews, placements, and features consistently
  • Work directly with content and digital teams to amplify wins
  • Track activity, results, and progress through our system (ARs, reporting)
  • Be accountable to weekly output and results, not just effort
What Winning Looks Like
  • Consistent media placements every month
  • High activity levels (calls, emails, follow-ups) that lead to outcomes
  • Ability to take a “no” and turn it into a “not yet”
  • Owning your pipeline and your results
Who You Are
  • You have a sales or marketing mindset (PR experience is a bonus, not required)
  • You are fearless on the phone and in the inbox
  • You don’t wait for direction, you create momentum
  • You are competitive and care about results
  • You follow up when others stop
  • You take ownership, not excuses

If you’ve worked in:

  • sales
  • recruiting
  • business development
  • or high-output marketing

you’ll likely outperform traditional PR backgrounds.

Compensation

This is a highly bonused role.

  • Base salary + aggressive performance bonuses tied to placements and results
  • If you produce, you will earn
  • If you don’t, this role will not be a fit
