Summary

The Music Department at Saint Xavier University invites applications for a full-time Professional Practice Lecturer to serve as Band Director beginning February 2026. This is a non-tenure-track position that is annually renewable based on program growth and sustainability. The successful candidate will have experience recruiting, developing, and administering a band program at the high school and/or collegiate level, including marching and concert band ensembles.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Successful recruitment for and administration of the band program.
Reconstitute the University Marching Band.
Conduct Wind Ensemble.
Teach music education methods courses, as needed.
Supervise and assist with placement of instrumental music student teachers.
Advise and mentor instrumental music education students.
Other classroom and studio assignments as needed commensurate with departmental needs and the candidate's qualifications.
Qualifications

Doctorate in Music preferred, Master's in Music acceptable.
Demonstrated success and experience developing and teaching instrumental music ensembles at the secondary school and/or collegiate level.
Evidence of successful professional experience in music.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with music colleagues.
