Overview
This Operations Technician position will be located in Owensboro, KY and will support Marathon Pipe Line’s Owensboro Area. This position involves working with crude oil and refined petroleum products and is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of company assets in full compliance with all applicable DOT, environmental, safety, and regulatory standards in support of 24/7/365 operations. Key responsibilities include executing and supporting pipeline Operations & Logistics, Damage Prevention, and Right of Way relations. The successful candidate is required to live within 45 minutes of the reporting location at 1046 Pleasant Valley Road, Owensboro, KY 42303. Travel, callouts, and overtime will be required on an as‑needed basis.
Responsibilities
Monitoring pipeline movements
Conduct product quality oversight through sampling and testing
Maintain facility and equipment per regulatory and intercompany compliance
Routine facility and equipment inspections
Routine and breakdown maintenance tasks
Respond and resolve station alarms
Emergency response
Inventory reconciliation
Evaluate and troubleshoot issuesVerify completion and ensure closure of work order tasks
Climb above ground storage tanks in excess of 40 feet
Provide damage prevention oversight through one-call ticket monitoring and locating
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Associate’s degree in a related technical field is preferred but not required.
Valid driver’s license and good driving record is required.
Previous pipeline experience with emphasis on electrical/mechanical is highly preferred.
Proficiency in basic computer skills.
Self‑motivated and organized approach to routine work.
Must be willing to work 8‑hour shift with rotating on‑call responsibilities covering nights/weekends.
A successful candidate will be required to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) with company funding.
