Job: Applications Developer
Write specifications, design, build, test, implement and support software applications using a variety of computer languages and development tools.

The applications developer will translate software requirements into concise and robust programming code. He/she may specialise in a specific development environment, e.g. web tools, e-commerce, portals, security, mobile and will have in‑depth knowledge of a variety of relevant computer languages.

Detailed work and skill description:
The applications developer will apply knowledge of programming techniques and computer systems to write quality and innovative software for the international market that meet the specifications agreed.

Activities typically will include:

establishing a detailed program specification through discussion with candidate users;

clarifying precisely what actions the program is intended to perform;

breaking down program specification into its simplest elements and translating this logic into a programming language;

devising possible solutions to predicted problems, evaluating other options;

working as part of a team, which may be established purely for a particular project, to write a specific section of the program;

combining all elements of the program design and testing it;

testing sample data sets to check that output from the program works as intended;
