The insurance billing patient account specialist is responsible for all billing and collection activity with insurance carriers. This may include research and contact with patient, guarantor, insurance companies, or other third-party payers. Under the leadership of the Manager, Patient Financial Services, the patient account specialist is responsible for the billing of accounts, review of payment accuracy, account research, and follow-up. Efforts may include financial, clinical, or demographic account corrections. Research also includes coordination with service providers and payers, root analysis of denied payment, and timely follow up on claims. Filters and sorts EPIC work-queues in an effort to provide most effective A/R strategies. Stays current on all payer billing requirements. Maintains a high level of accuracy and assures compliant billing of claims. Is able to track and communicate payer trends to supervisor and manager.
Department Specific Job Details
Education
High school diploma or GED required.
Experience
Minimum of 1 year of experience in patient financial services or healthcare billing.
Skills / Competencies
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work tactfully with patients, staff, and interdepartmental customers.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of healthcare billing regulations and compliance requirements.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
