Assistant Director of Digital Communication

Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Digital Communication manages the school division’s digital ecosystem, overseeing strategy and maintenance of internet/intranet sites, social media platforms, and mass communication tools to engage staff, community members, families, and business partners. The role ensures 100% compliance with federal ADA accessibility standards across all digital platforms and provides high-level support for executive communications and emergency notification efforts.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and direct the workflow of the digital communication team, ensuring projects align with the division strategic plan.
- Serve as the primary strategist for the division’s digital “North Star,” creating a unified and stable user experience across all platforms.
- Maintain and optimize content on division-level and school-based web pages using the current CMS, managing the full lifecycle of network-based applications and site architecture.
- Administer user access and provide 1:1 technical training for school-based Content Managers to ensure consistency.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for digital accessibility, ensuring 100% compliance with Office of Civil Rights standards for all web content, PDFs, and multimedia.
- Develop and manage mandatory ADA training via Canvas; monitor and audit digital output to mitigate legal and accessibility risks.
- Develop and execute autonomous social media strategies across Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube to increase division visibility.
- Monitor social media and web resources for division-related news or rumors; provide proactive alerts to leadership and execute emergency communications as directed.
- Administer division-wide emergency alerts, school closings, and delays using ParentLink or the current mass notification tool, ensuring technical accuracy and multi-channel deployment.
- Prepare and design assets for presentations and reports to support leadership, including strategic communication plans.
- Provide professional communication and technical support for School Board meetings and high-profile community engagement events.
- Utilize Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and Smore to produce high-quality layouts, newsletters, and digital ads.
- Lead building liaisons and provide training to ensure accomplishments from every school are communicated.
- Evaluate digital engagement using Google Analytics, Meltwater, and CMS insights to inform future communication investments.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or Business Administration preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of successful experience in the private sector and/or education-oriented public relations, web site management, and web design.
- Knowledge: Expert knowledge of Canva, Smore, Meltwater, Google Workspace, digital signage software, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign/Acrobat Pro), and Canvas LMS; deep understanding of WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards and PDF remediation techniques.
- Skills: Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt tone for various digital platforms and public relations materials; strong data‑interpretation skills from Google Analytics and social media monitoring tools.
- Abilities: Ability to interpret data from analytics and monitoring tools; maintain high performance and meet deadlines during high‑stress emergency notifications; pivot between strategic planning and technical troubleshooting; work cooperatively in a team; organize and perform work independently; sustain effort and enthusiasm.
- Additional Requirements: Maintain 100% compliance with federal ADA accessibility standards; availability for in‑person work; compliance with all division policies and regulations.
