Overview
The Florida Maritime Museum (FMM) preserves and shares Florida’s maritime heritage through collections, programming, and public engagement. The Marketing & Volunteer Coordinator is a full‑time, non‑supervisory position reporting to the Supervisor of the Florida Maritime Museum. The coordinator serves as the first point‑of‑contact for visitors, manages the gift shop, coordinates volunteer recruitment and retention, promotes museum programs via social media and other channels, and assists with exhibit development and public programming.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Professional oral and written communication skills (English; Spanish preferred)
At least one year of recent experience demonstrating acute attention to detail and data maintenance in an automated systems environment
Computer literacy, including proficiency in the Microsoft Windows Suite
Basic mathematical aptitude and filing skills
Experience in cash handling and issuing receipts
Purchasing, invoicing, and inventory experience
Working knowledge of current marketing principles and proficient use of social media
Proficiency in web and graphic design
Proficiency in promotional photography, audio/video recording and editing
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with volunteers
Operating general office equipment
Valid Florida driver’s license
Regular and reliable attendance, including weekends and occasional evenings
Essential Functions
Coordinate and attend to all aspects of visitor experience, including greeting visitors and answering phone calls
Communicate museum information, visitor rules, and current programs to visitors and callers
Direct callers and visitors to appropriate staff and take messages as needed
Provide excellent customer service in person, over email, and by phone
Monitor social media accounts and enforce organizational policy
Seek outreach opportunities and coordinate participation, including on‑site presence when needed
Manage and operate the museum gift shop, conduct retail sales, track and report sales, and manage cash control and daily deposits
Order, stock, price, and track gift shop inventory relevant to the museum’s mission
Enforce museum policies in a friendly manner
Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
Recruit, train, retain, track, and report volunteer hours and coordinate volunteer appreciation activities
Assist with general administrative duties such as setting up meetings, recording visitation data, digitizing files, and sorting mail
Collaborate with staff to create, implement, and evaluate museum activities
Assist with facility operations, including emergency preparedness, grounds maintenance, and custodial duties
Collaborate with the Curator on exhibit design and installation and assist with moving artifacts
Assist with planning, scheduling, and evaluating public programming, including workshops, classes, festivals, lectures, and exhibit openings both onsite and offsite
Plan, schedule, and orchestrate all group tours
Develop, implement, and/or maintain museum branding in coordination with the Supervisor
Market and promote the historic site through social media, website maintenance, flyer creation and distribution, and posting events to online calendars

Employment Information
This is a full‑time, non‑supervisory position. The coordinator must be available for occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
