Overview Job Title: Communications and Project Specialist; Classification: Marketing Communications Professional II; Auto Req. ID: 560059; Salary Range: Classification Range $5,178 - $7,543 per month (hiring range depending on qualifications, not anticipated to exceed $5,178 - $6,188 per month); Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
Department: The Parking and Transportation department within the Division of Administration and Finance provides access to the campus through alternative commute options and parking programs that mitigate traffic congestion and improve air quality through the reduction of mobile source emissions. This role will work collaboratively with the campus community through creative and engaging content. The ideal candidate should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Duties and Responsibilities Coordinate communications and project implementation strategies in support of the department’s goals.
Under the general direction of department management and the Lead Communications and Projects Specialist, perform independent communications and outreach tasks for the department.
Oversee and lead coordination of external and internal marketing efforts, media relations, community outreach, web communications, and publication functions.
Oversee the design and execution of the marketing plan and all department materials to increase awareness and provide timely updates to the campus.
Oversee the department’s web marketing, photography, and social media strategy and growth; develop and administer social media accounts to inform campus audiences.
Create and deliver appropriate media messages; prepare department publications and maintain oversight of the department website.
Develop internal stories to communicate with external constituencies; ensure brand consistency across programs aligned with branding strategies.
Coordinate scheduling of department outreach opportunities and events on campus.
Capture high-quality event photography and videography and maintain the department photo library.
Use analytics to track outreach effectiveness, engagement, and project results.
Educate administrators and staff on effective marketing practices and trends.
Serve as liaison to other university departments to ensure alignment with the university brand.
Oversee internal communications to keep department employees informed through channels such as meetings, emails, and newsletters.
Create and update standard operating procedures for department processes.
Collaborate across internal and external teams; promote engagement and inclusive strategies in communications and processes.
Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience; additional experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis. An advanced degree may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
Under general supervision, creates engaging content and develops marketing campaigns, communication plans, and initiatives.
Professional knowledge of marketing and communications; ability to collaborate with stakeholders to enhance the university brand and engage audiences.
Ability to work independently on day-to-day assignments with general supervision on new projects; manages multiple priorities and is accountable for results.
Strong skills in marketing, communications, public relations, branding, and related disciplines; knowledge of copyright laws related to publications and media.
Strong project planning, organizational, writing, and editing skills for internal and external documents.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to lead and train others; proficiency with marketing software and tools.
A background check is required and may be completed satisfactorily for employment; conditional offers may be rescinded based on results.
Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree or equivalent in English, journalism, public relations, communications, or related field.
At least four years of editing, writing, journalism, public relations, communications, or marketing experience; prior higher education experience is preferred.
Knowledge of university policies, procedures, and protocol; familiarity with PC platforms, word processing, web content management, email, and AP style guidelines.
Experience with Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, and Photoshop; ability to adapt to new technologies.
License/Certifications A valid California driver’s license.
