Jagermeister Celebrates the Bro-Code with ‘Brother in Your Corner’

Let me begin by stating the obvious: If you find yourself downing more than 3 Jager-bombs in one sitting, odds are your bro doesn’t have your back. Your bro is not a good bro, and you should consider bro-ing out with a new bro who won’t let such a terrible thing happen to you. Sorry, bro.

Now that’s out of the way, let’s take a look at the latest campaign for Jagermeister and LA-based indie shop Mistress titled “A Brother in Your Corner.” The concept of celebrating male companionship in alcohol ads is nothing new, especially in the beer category where things like “Man Law” are done time and time again. Instead of playing the concept for comedic effect, however, Jagermeister has decided to showcase legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach, whose long resume includes times spent in the corner of boxing champs like Oscar de la Hoya, Manny Pacquiao, and Julio Caesar Chavez. As the video illustrates, Roach has gained a reputation within the boxing community for taking extra special care of his fighters, both within the ring and outside of it. This devotion to his athletes, Roach says, was instilled in him by his own trainer, Eddie Futch, who himself gained fame for training legends like Joe Fraizer, Ken Norton, and Larry Holmes.

The campaign’s tone and focus seems targeted to an older, likely middle-aged bro, one who has actually heard of these fighters and knows anything about professional boxing as none of the fighters associated with Roach our Futch are named in the spot. Also, it’s hard to find many people under that age of 30 who know much about boxing, as MMA continues its climb upwards as boxing fades into irrelevance. The campaign also features a digital extension in which those young males who prove they live by the “Jager Code” compete for a chance to win a trip to Las Vegas for a private training session with Roach as well as tickets to an upcoming boxing match. Let’s Go Back to the Future Once Again with Blake Griffin

The Deadpan Dunker is at it again, traveling back in time for two new spots with his faux-DeLorean Kia Optima. In this latest series from David&Goliath, Blake Griffin targets his younger self in 2006 and 2002 to impart wisdom on lifting weights and wearing sunblock. He listens to a little Sean Paul. And he wears the genius red jumpsuit with the griffin logo.

One of the best campaigns on TV continues with more quality spots. Most athletes can’t act, but Blake’s straight-faced delivery and self-deprecation puts him ahead of every competitor out there. He also listens to Eiffel 65 and used to wear jean shorts, so there’s that. And if you need proof of commitment to the brand, he won the 2010 NBA Slam Dunk Contest by dunking over a Kia Optima as a gospel choir serenaded the crowd. Cliff Paul’s mustache can’t compete with that. Credits and the second ad after the jump.

Sony Xperia Makes Short Trip Home an Adventurous One

McCann NY and director Paul Hunter are behind this :60 spot that promotes Sony’s Xperia ion, which marks the electronics giant’s first attempt at launching a 4G LTE smartphone in the US. The lad above has quite the adventure, albeit a short one, in this ad called  “One Block,” which comes equipped with the obligatory Amazing Spider-Man tie-in as well as some chipper Matt & Kim music and, why not, a raging war scene. Our smartphone-loving protagonist, though, is totally impervious (sound familiar?), weathering it all and finding comfort in the safety of his home, couch and furry friend. Uh, dude, look behind you. Mark Foster, Kimbra, A-Trak Collaborate for Converse

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Converse seems to be taking this adage to heart, producing another installment of its “Three Artists One Song” campaign by Anomaly.

The campaign has created unlikely collaborators in the past, including joining New Order’s Bernard Sumner with Hot Chip and Hot City and Soulja Boy with Matt and Kim and Andrew W.K. For the track and music video “Warrior,” Converse and Anomaly are bringing together DJ and Kid Sister/M.I.A. collaborator A-Trak, Mark Foster of seemingly overnight indie pop sensation Foster the People, and New Zealand-based singer/songwriter, Kimbra.

As with past collaborations, the actual track is a pleasant surprise. But, the video, featuring a lucha libre underground wrestling fight club, is where this unlikely trio shines. Credits after the jump.
