TV Land Names Mediahub/Mullen Media AOR

mullen-304Mediahub/Mullen was awarded media buying and planning duties for TV Land, following a review that also included Fallon, reports Adweek. TV Land had previously been working with agencies on a project basis.

The assignment marks the agency’s second Viacom media buying and planning client, following being made media buying and planning agency of record for VH1 last November. Critical to the assignment will be supporting VH1′s new original series Younger, written and directed by Sex and the City‘s Darren Star, which debuts in January. Mediahub/Mullen will also work on other new and returning TV Land original series, including the Betty White-starring Hot and Cleveland, the show that marked the channel’s initial shift to original content. Snickers Drops Down the Celebrity Hierarchy with Kenny G

Betty White, Joe Pesci, Robin Williams, and… Kenny G. Aside from picking the most odds-and-sods group of entertainers out there, Snickers and BBDO New York have a knack for choosing celebrities with just enough relevance for the “You’re not you when you’re hungry” campaign. The title for best Snickers jokester is a toss-up between White’s roughhousing football player and Pesci’s whiny wingman. The latest spot, “Cards,” won’t top its predecessors, mainly because Kenny G doesn’t speak throughout the whole clip, but you can always lose yourself in his patented melancholy saxophoning.

It’s strange to think that the first ad with White came out over three years ago, but these spots seem to have enough social support to keep on kicking, even as the celebrities get less celebratory. Maybe for the next one, BBDO could get all four celebs in one room at the same time – a group of hungry people who all need to eat Snickers. That way, we could get Pesci to look at Kenny G and unleash a “Who is this fuckin’ guy?” tirade. Everybody wins, even Kenny G, since he’d be in two commercials in the past decade instead of one. Out with the New, In with the Old for National Sweater Day

Turn up those hearing aids…Toronto agency john st. has brought back its Granny-themed National Sweater Day campaign for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Ruth, Florence, Audrey, and a few other lovely ladies from Granny Call Centre 82.0 are back to convince Canadians to wear sweaters and lower the heater on Feb. 7 in an effort to save energy. You should check out the campaign’s site to meet all the grannies and read background info for the cause. You also have the option of nominating your own grandmother if she’s into ugly sweaters and environmental awareness.

The aforementioned john st. which recently amused us with its “Buyral” spoof, tapped into the secret of advertising for this one: Either cute babies or charming grandparents equals success. The only thing missing from the videos is a cutaway to cute babies in ugly sweaters. That would’ve been the equivalent of back-to-back Bingo’s in the nursing home. But the National Sweater Day campaign is still a smart revival for a good cause. Betty White better watch her back. Credits after the jump.

SportsNation’s Michelle Beadle Cooks Up Some Super Bowl Ad Fail

If you’ve never seen ESPN2′s amorphous blob of viral videos and sports commentary, SportsNation, you are in for one of the strangest shows the Walt Disney Company has ever turned out, That’s So Raven included.

Picture Comedy Central’s weekly funny internet video wrap-up Tosh.0 mixed with Fox Sports Net’s old silly sports free-for-all The Best Damn Sports Show Period sprinkled in with ESPN’s short-lived Today Show-esque morning show, Cold Pizza. Mix in radio show host Colin Cowherd and his co-host, sports reporter Michelle Beadle, and the above video makes complete sense to the regular SportsNation viewer. Seriously.

Attempting to take the focus away from actually discussing the Super Bowl and their show’s whole “will they or won’t they” vibe that diminishes whenever Beadle shuts down Cowherd’s nervous advances (sigh), the former puts herself through the famous Super Bowl Ad gauntlet. And, look at that, she can take a clothesline to a mud puddle as well as Betty White. If Beadle and Cowherd aren’t complimenting funny videos and comparing their value to professional sports feats, they are making funny videos and ignoring sports all together. Try to bribe them with soda for their jersey, and they’ll throw a glass bottle at your face.
