Jason Sudeikis Confuses American Football with Soccer for NBC Sports

If you live in either Chicago or Boston, you may have watched (or wanted to watch) the Stanley Cup Finals, in which case you realized that you don’t have access to NBC Sports. After some McGyver-ing and hooking you iPad to your TV, you got thousands about thousands of commercials advertising that NBC Sports would be broadcasting every game of England’s prestigious Barclays Premier League. After digesting this fact, you immediately stopped caring because 1.) You’re an American who likes ‘merican sports and 2.) Again, you don’t have access to NBC Sports.

But who better to make you, an American without access to NBC, care about this development than Jason Sudeikis, a former Saturday Night Live cast member who has appeared basically fucking everywhere in the last month? First, dude quits SNL. Then, he starts going on a press tour for his terrible-looking new movie, Meet The Millers, where he stars opposite Jennifer Aniston, who plays a middle-aged stripper. Then, he joined ESPN to count down the top 50 “This Is SportsCenter” ads last week. Then, he made cameo appearance in Drinking Buddies, a new film playing on Apple TV before it hits theaters at the end of the month and stars Sudeikis’ real-life fiance, Olivia Wilde. Then, Kiran shows me this and asks me to write about it, compelling me to start complaining about how Jason Sudeikis is fucking everywhere these days. Then, wouldn’t you know it, he releases a viral video YESTERDAY where he leads a parody version of Mumford & Sons, with Ed Helms, Jason Bateman and Will Forte starring as his bearded indie-folk backing band.

Seriously, it’s absolutely impossible to get rid of this guy. Watch him play a dumb American coach who doesn’t get soccer above in a new campaign from the Brooklyn Brothers (who you may remember from those kick-ass John Krasinski/Alec Baldwin New Era spots), and then don’t talk to me about Jason Sudeikis until you’ve developed some sort of Sudeikis repellant.

Denny’s Parts Ways with Gotham, Consolidates Advertising at Erwin Penland

Well, the three-year relationship between Denny’s and IPG-owned, New York-based agency Gotham has come to an end. In a pretty self-explanatory statement, Frances Allen, chief brand officer for the 60-year-old diner/casual restaurant chain, says:

“We are very grateful to Gotham. ‘America’s Diner is Always Open’ has reconnected with consumers across America, earning us both an Effie and a Cannes Lion award in the process. We are enormously proud of that work and are thankful to Gotham for their dedication and partnership over the last 3 years.

All businesses evolve, and Denny’s is no different. Over the last four years we have developed a strong relationship with Erwin Penland through their work on various aspects of our business, and we believe that their ever expanding expertise and unique understanding of the Denny’s brand makes them the right fit as our agency of record going forward. With Erwin Penland we see the opportunity to both consolidate our business for efficiency and enhance our united national and local marketing and advertising efforts, while upholding the high creative standards that have been set by Gotham.”

Gotham initially beat out Erwin Penland (as well as BBDO and KBS+) back in August 2010 for the Denny’s duties, though EP continued partnering with the brand for menus, merchandising and local support. Erwin Penland will now handle both creative and media. As for Gotham, perhaps the agency’s most notable work for Denny’s, from our perspective at least, was the “Always Open” series hosted by David Koechner and featuring a host of famous folks including Jessica Biel, Jason Bateman, Sarah Silverman, Amy Poehler and Will Arnett. You can check out the Poehler clip after the jump if you’d like.

Denny’s Kicks Off Second Season of ‘Always Open’ Series

Gotham, Electus, College Humor Productions and the gang at DumbDumb (aka Will Arnett & Jason Bateman) have joined forces once again with funnyman Champ Kind David Koechner to launch season two of “Always Open,” which if you don’t know is a series where Koechner chats it up with celebs inside a Denny’s. First up to bat is the fetching actress Jessica Biel, who receives a rather disappointing gift from our host, talks about her climb up Mount Kilimanjaro (which was par of the HP “Summit on the Summit” campaign) and a hypothetical situation surrounding it. It’s dry and may evoke a chuckle or two, just like last season. Upcoming guests this time around include Maya Rudolph and Christina Applegate.

Gob Gets Job as AT&T Pitchman

Arrested Development star Will Arnett, who’s no stranger to commercial work having served as the VO on GMC truck ads and co-creator of those Orbit shorts along with Jason Bateman, hams it up in a new holiday campaign from BBDO for AT&T dubbed “You’ve Got a Case.” Here, the comedic actor plays a lawyer-for-hire named Kent Wesley and plugs the telecom giant’s 4G smartphone/Facebook app with a bit more cockiness, charm and pizazz than chubby Luke Wilson. It’s everything you’d expect from the man who’s resurrecting his classic role as Gob in the near future thanks to Netflix. Credits, which will tell you that is not the handiwork of new AT&T creatives Rick Ardito and Grant Smith, after the jump.

Amy Poehler Latest to Take Seat at Denny’s

Parks and Recreation star/SNL alum Amy Poehler is the latest funny person to engage “Always Open” host David Koechner and somehow eat Denny’s food in the process. Considering who’s already starred in this Gotham//DumbDumb-created show, we can probably expect to see David Cross, Michael Cera or Will Ferrell to drop by shortly. Here, Koechner continues his creepy shtick and gets too forward with Poehler, whom he refers to more than once as his “little sister.” Wonder why he never tried this with Jason Bateman.

Koechner Poses a Hypothetical to Arnett at Denny’s

Seeing as his DumbDumb partner Jason Bateman already made his appearance and yapped it up with David Koechner in the Denny’s “Always Open” debut, it was only a matter of time that Will Arnett would grace the booth, scarf down diner food and do the funny. Here, the Arrested Development alum, who also does VO work for GMC dont’cha know, plays psychotherapist of sorts and shows his own form of forgiveness. It sure did feel unscripted at the beginning, though, but nonetheless, here’s the latest from DumbDumb, Electus and Gotham. Credits after the jump..

Sarah Silverman Takes a Seat at Denny’s

Man, that David Koechner is so hot right now. As promised in our previous post regarding the launch of Denny’s “Always Open” web series, Sarah Silverman joins up with the aforementioned Anchorman star for a sit-down at the diner chain for a few minutes. One of the comedienne’s opening lines, complete with the porn music, kicks things off proper: “I do like it when people see me in a sexual way.” This “Always Open” installment, though, feels less “unscripted” and more improvisational as Koechner hits on Silverman throughout while she eats some toast and what looks like oatmeal. It’s like the awkward blind date you always wish you had. Credits after the jump…

Denny’s: The Venue of Choice for Your Favorite Funny People

David Koechner, aka Champ Kind from Anchorman, plays host in a new web series for Denny’s concocted by Gotham in partnership with Will Arnett and Jason Bateman‘s DumbDumb studio as well as Ben Silverman‘s Electus.  The idea: Round up a group of comedians, comedic actors and the like for a quick, unscripted conversation at one of the diner chain’s actual locations. The new “Always Open” talk show, which is basically an extension of Gotham’s “America’s diner is always open” campaign, will feature the likes of Sarah Silverman, Amy Poehler and Will Forte in the coming weeks.

The first clip above features Koechner and Arrested Development star Bateman yapping it up, bringing some dry humor and pretending to enjoy their meals. At the very least, it’s a decent branding attempt by the Gotham camp, which took over the Denny’s account last August.
