‘The Pitch’ Recap: BooneOakley Battles Conversation for PopChips

Just four episodes into its first season, is it possible that the days are already numbered for AMC’s advertising reality show, The Pitch? After two weeks in the Monday, 10pm/9c time slot, the cable network seems to have permanently shifted The Pitch, now scheduling it to air on Sundays at 11pm/10c.

Obviously, this is a strategic move to glean viewers from Mad Men, which airs an hour earlier. But, AMC must also be hoping that America will actually stay up watching TV until midnight before they have to go to work the next day. In any case, this abrupt scheduling change surely caused many fans of the show to miss maybe this season’s most anticipated episode, which featured one of the country’s most talked-about young agencies and a food brand that’s recently shown us it’s willing to take risks to get noticed. Expectant parents, rejoice! You can get sarcastic, pop-culture laden quips from your baby before its born with “Wee Mail,” a new mobile app from Charlotte, NC-based BooneOakley and developer Limbua.

Now, if there’s anything a pregnant woman want to help her ease into pregnancy, it’s daily mobile updates from the tiny human growing inside her. And, Wee Mail’s nearly 300 one-liners aren’t limited to such zingers as “I’m always naked and demand a lot of attention. You sure I’m not a Kardashian?” for girls and “I have to admit, most days I feel like a man trapped in a woman’s body” for boys. In fact, by setting the baby’s due date, the baby will send you Wee Mail about growing various extremities, organs, and appendages as it prepares to burst forth into a world where people create iPhone apps likes this. Well, at least you no longer have to worry about going into labor unexpectedly, right?

Wee Mail is currently available as a free download from the iTunes app store (where it already has two glowing reviews), with themed add-on packages expected to be available soon for $.99 each. A marketing campaign for the app is currently being targeted toward mommy bloggers, baby photographers and parenting magazines. Credits after the jump.

Warning: ‘It’s Bo Time’ at Bojangles

Never heard of Bojangles’? Don’t be too surprised. According to their website, Bonjangles’ are only located in these states (and Honduras, for some reason). They’re like Chick-Fil-A or Popeye’s, but only located in SEC country where people talk in a drawl and most folks subsist on a diet of exclusively chicken and biscuits. It’s a strange place, the south, so their televisions ads must seem as odd to those in the godless north as the idea of wearing a button down Confederate flag shirt to a fancy restaurant. It would seem, for example, that Kentucky is apparently too forward thinking for a Bojangles’ franchise.

It would make sense in this case that “It’s Bo Time” is Bojangles’ slogan, after “Ain’t no party like a Bojangles’ party” proved to be a bit of a mouthful (kidding). In the spot from production company HELLO!, LA titled “Coach,” the high school (or college) football coach in question truly deserves some sort of award for his acting chops. When his players pour a bucket of hot chicken grease on his back, wow does he look surprised!

Residents of the southern United States, this is how stupid a production company from LA thinks you are. This is how stupid BooneOakley, NC thinks you are. This is how stupid a fast food restaurant thinks you are. They think you’ll find this crap hilarious. You know what? Yankees assume you’ll laugh at this, too. This whole campaign is a sad mess of condescension being vomited out in your face with a side of gravy.
