Biz Stone, who co-founded Twitter alongside Jack Dorsey and Evan Williams, is one of a group of celebrities who are teaming up with multiple Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard (Cocoon, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind) to make a short film, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.
Stone, who left Twitter in June of last year, and began his career as a graphic artist, says that he was drawn to the project because it allows him to scratch a longtime “creative itch”.
“I have a long-held philosophy that constraint really inspires creativity,” said Stone about his new role. “Out of those pictures you have to create a meaningful, relevant narrative, to make something worthwhile to the audience. I like that challenge. Whether it’s a tweet or a photo, consumers want to share and I’m excited to jump right in.”
Other famous folk who will be making films include actor Jamie Foxx, actress Eva Longoria and musician James Murphy.
The movies will premier at the Canon Project Imaginat10n Film Festival in 2013. The “10” in “Imaginat10n” represents ten storytelling elements and ten films that will ultimately be produced. Each film will be inspired by photos submitted online, and fans have until September 24th to submit images for inclusion. A similar endeavor by Canon last year received almost 100,000 entries.
“Last year’s campaign reinforced the endless possibilities of photography, engaging the masses who entered photos at a record shattering pace to inspire a film legend, Ron Howard,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Imaging Technologies & Communications Group, Canon U.S.A. “An award-winning film shot on the new Cinema EOS System was proof that creative collaboration matched with the power of Canon products can achieve great things.”
“The concept behind Project Imaginat10n showcases the power still images can have on narrative storytelling, but more importantly, it demonstrates there are no limits with creativity and sources of inspiration can come from anyone or anything,” said Howard in a statement.
