The mobile web browser lets users search the web by gesturing on the screen.”It is a really creative approach to navigating the web,” said Edwards. “We’ve gone from manual input to something that is much more comfortable: simple drawing.”

Edwards said that drawing letters are a very easy way to search the web. For instance, draw a G and Google pops up. E is for ESPN. “Say I want to see how The Heat played last night. Instead of opening the ESPN app, or opening my browser, I just go to Dolphin and I draw ‘E,’” said Edwards.

The chairman/CEO of The Weather Company chose the note-taking app Evernote.  ”Within Evernote, Evernote Hello is my favorite, because I meet a lot of interesting and it is a way to keep track of when I met them, and what we talked about,” he said. Evernote Hello lets you scan business cards, access your contact’s LinkedIn page, as well as add notes to your contact list so that you can create a rich, browsable history of people and experiences. ”It keeps my life very organized,” adds Kenny.

Kenny uses the app on his iPhone, iPad and Nexus 7 — three devices that he carries with him as he is always checking The Weather Channel apps to make sure that they are working. Read more

AppNewser asked, What’s Favorite App, Calvin Carter?

The founder and president of Bottle Rocket Apps, told us that he likes Wunderlist and Tapatalk, but chose the private social networking app Path as his favorite. ”Path is my connection to some of the most important people in my lives,” he said. “All of my friends on Path are fellow Rocketeers (Bottle Rocket employees). I love keeping up with the people I see every day. I find it a lot more fun and rewarding than checking the status of someone I haven’t seen in decades. It’s just more relevant and meaningful to me.”

Carter uses the app on his white iPhone 5. These days he is working on a number of apps at Bottle Rocket including a variety of iPhone, iPad and Android projects for brands including: A&E TV, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Food Network, Scholastic, BET, Churchill Downs, LEGO, and WWE.

AppNewser asked, What’s Favorite App, Lyle Underkoffler?

The VP of digital media at Disney Publishing Worldwide chose  Kindoma Storytime, a free app that combines books and video chats so that families spread around the globe can connect for nighttime reading. “I am fascinated with the app because it essentially allows children and parents or other loved ones to read together no matter where they are in the world,” explains Underkoffler.

Underkoffler first discovered the app when he was away from his family at the Bologna Book Fair in Italy. “It is an extremely innovative experience that I believe fills a need for families with children of all ages,” he said. “I still have the app installed on my iPad and the next time I’m away from my kids for an extended period of time, you can bet that we will still have bedtime stories through ‘Kindoma Storytime.’ Next up is getting my parents to share the story time ritual with their grandkids.”

The CEO of the online dating site AYI (which is owned by SNAP Interactive), chose Flipboard.

“If you spend any significant amount of time at all on a tablet or touchscreen phone, it becomes second nature to swipe through websites, books, magazines and social media outlets with the touch of a finger,” he says. “Flipboard provides me with everything I read and do online in one place.”

Lerner uses the app on his iPad. He has personalized Flipboard account to show feeds from Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn along with his favorite news sources to create a simple to use and easy to read social magazine.

AppNewser asked, What’s Favorite App, Dan Roth?

The executive editor at LinkedIn picked to-do app Wunderlist because, “the app is clean and simple, loads instantly and works on every platform,” which Roth considers essential, “if, like me, you need to get your must-dos written down quickly or have them disappear into the ether,” he said.

Roth also likes that the app is free and he can prioritize his lists. “I used to use Remember the Milk, but prefer Wunderlist’s easier method for prioritizing, as well as its ability to share lists,” he continued. “I love watching what happens when I complete a to-do: the text gets crossed out, a big check appears and the item drops into a Recently Completed section. And for a few seconds I can feel like Sisyphus reaching the top of the mountain.”

MC: I have multiple favorite apps, so it’s really difficult for me to name just one. Since you’re asking for just one, I’m going to go with Echofon. I use Twitter primarily as my daily newsfeed, and secondarily as a tool to share interesting publishing industry news, or news about Smashwords, our authors or our retail partners. Multiple times per day, I’ll dip into my Twitterstream with Echofon. I follow about 170 smart people and organizations on Twitter, and many of them are hyper-focused on eBook publishing news and media trends. In thirty seconds with a quick scroll, I can get a sense of what’s breaking in the world of publishing.

AN: What’s your favorite app, Jeff Corwin?

JC:  Google Earth, Hi Tide, and Nike Running. Google Earth, because I can find out where the heck I am this time. Besides, being able to send my wife a photo of my exact location, so that she can come and rescue me, is a bonus. Hi Tide, because we live on an island, and our lives are ruled by the tides. Really. Nike Running is pretty awesome too, since it tracks the pace and distance of my runs, and compares them to my earlier ones. So I know exactly how long it would take me to get out of the middle of nowhere to get home in time to beat the tide. Sense a pattern here?
