GSound Helps Identify Songs & Movies Based on Seconds of Audio Track

Have you seen or heard part of a song in a cafe and want to know where to buy the track? Check out GSound, a new iPhone app that will help you identify media, be it a song, TV show or movie, by allowing you to record a few seconds of the audio which is used to help connect you with where you can buy it.

GSound uses sound recognition technology to help you identify the TV show, song or movie. The app tries to identify the media’s “audio fingerprint” and searches for three elements that are tagged into the file.

Damián A. Scavo, the CEO of Axwave, GSound’s maker, explained in a statement: “Every search triggers three queries that allows GSOUND to not only identify the movie, music or TV show being heard, but also detailed information about it, where you can buy it and share it with friends.”

Once you have identified the song or show, the app will provide you with links to help you purchase the media from iTunes or Amazon, if it is available. The app will also suggest related content that is available for purchase.

We’ve put together a list of five apps (both iOS & Android) that can help you create a soothing environment, along with links and descriptions of the apps for you to explore further.

1. White Noise: “Even when you’re asleep, your brain is constantly scanning and listening for sounds. If it’s too quiet, unwanted noises such as faucet drips or police sirens can interrupt your sleep. White Noise generates sounds over a wide range of frequencies, masking those noise interruptions, so you can not only fall asleep, but stay asleep.” Read more

Coupons.com Releases Recipe App For Google Glass

Coupons.com, a site that offers discounts on consumer products goods, has introduced a voice-activated Google Glass app for cooking. Using the app, a Google Glass user can ask for recipes, which will pop up on the screen of their glass as they are standing in the kitchen or the grocery store.

KitchMe for Glass pulls recipes from the already existing KitchMe.com web app. Users can voice search the app by varying categories such as ingredients, calorie counts or dietary requirements, then swipe through results.  Ingredient searches can help users find recipes based on what they’ve already got in the refrigerator  or by what’s on sale at the grocery store.

The company is working on developing additional features such as the ability to take photos of prepared meals and then share them with social networks. They are also trying to figure out how to make the entire app entirely hands free.

Chop-Syc Tablet Designer Wants to Brings Wi-Fi Technology and Digital Screens to Cutting Boards

If you like to use digital recipes, you know that the kitchen is no place for an iPad – it’s not waterproof or knife-friendly. Siobhán Andrews knows about this technological dilemma. The design won the GetitDownOnPaper challenge at Sharp Laboratories – a competition between 70 international designers.

There’s not a definite plan to make the design a reality, but Andrew’s two months internship at Sharpe could help to solidify that decision.  Andrews work primarily revolves around humanitarian and medical equipment. Read more
