Not surprisingly, Julian Assange‘s new book Cypherpunks: Freedom and the Future of the Internet is not available from Amazon. Instead of working with the corporate book retailer, the Wiki Leaks founder and his publisher OR Books have made the book available for sale through reKiosk, a site that enables indie stores to sell digital content. (And the book is currently the main attraction, with a road block banner ad when you go to reKiosk.com).

reKiosk lets creators sell eBooks and music outside of major online marketplaces, through a network of smaller online shops. Makers who publish content into the network, enable the entire community of reKioskers to sell the creation from within the seller’s kiosks. The creator gets 70 percent of the sale price.

Want to give a copy to a friend for Christmas? The site recently added a feature that lets you send gift files for free via email. Anytime a user uploads a file, they can give it away to 20 different people by clicking on the gift icon in the user’s catalog. The gift recipients don’t have to be reKiosk members, but they do have to join to download the item.

eBook publisher RosettaBooks has a new Kindle Single coming out next week about WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange called Assange Agonistes.

Written by British investigative reporter Heather Brooke, who met Assange while researching a book on the digital revolution, the piece is about her personal experience working with controversial figure. Here is more from the press release: “At first ‘full of admiration for this warrior for freedom of information,’ Heather Brooke became curious, finding him ‘unsettlingly, even bafflingly, unaware of any notion of personal boundaries,’ and then increasingly alarmed by Julian Assange’s behavior.”

The release marks the publisher’s fourth Kindle Single release. A Kindle Single is a short form digital book that is typically between 10,000 and 30,000 words –or about 30-90 pages– and is priced less than a typical eBook.

The New York Times has a new book coming out about WikiLeaks that is being published exclusively as an eBook. The book, Open Secrets: WikiLeaks, War and American Diplomacy, is being published using Barnes & Noble’s PubIt! platform and is exclusively available in the Nook store.

The book chronicles important documents from WikiLeaks story and the controversy that came about as the stories were leaked to the press. The eBook comes out later this week for $5.99.

To help promote the title, Barnes & Noble is also giving Nook owners access to exclusive additional content from the story through its More In Store program. This includes a Q&A between Alexander Star, Open Secrets editor and a senior editor at The New York Times, and Eric Schmitt, a senior reporter on terrorism and national security at The Times, who spent time with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange as the WikiLeaks scandal broke. The exclusive content will be available later this week.
