Weather Underground has taken its online weather tool the WunderMap and created a touchscreen tablet edition. The new weather mapping application that lets you see real time weather information overlaid onto interactive Google maps. The WunderMap app, which is available for both Android and iOS tablets, pulls data from more than 30,000 personal weather stations giving hyper-local real time weather conditions.
It’s a pretty useful tool as you can determine if it is raining across town and decide whether or not to take an umbrella. The app also has tools for tracking extreme weather including hurricanes and wildfires.
“It used to be that you would do a weather forecast twice a day,” David Kenny, chairman/CEO of The Weather Company, told us back in May when giving AppNewser a sneak preview of the app. “The web made that more real time, but mobile has created the expectation that when you check the weather right now, you want it to reflect what it is right now and you want to know within fifteen minutes when the rain is going to stop and going to start.”
