"I do think that the quality which makes a man want to write and be read is essentially a desire for self-exposure and is masochistic. Like one of those guys who has a compulsion to take his thing out and show it on the street." - James Jones Wednesday Jan 07, 2009

Farewell
The time has come... After over three years at both FishbowlDC and at the Washington Examiner, I have the bittersweet news that I'm leaving both publications to join the Politico (I know, how unoriginal...), where I will be spearheading and hosting several online features: Video interviews, features, event coverage and Politico podcasts. If you're interested in being part of FishbowlDC, click here. If you're interested in the Examiner's Yeas & Nays column, send an email to this address. I'll remain with the Examiner and FishbowlDC until January 30 and will then begin across the river at Politico HQ. As for you and I, loyal readers: Thanks for everything...for your eyeballs, your tips, your humor, your patience and your support. My jobs at both the Examiner and here at FishbowlDC were my first full-time ventures in journalism and I couldn't have asked for a better introduction and experience. I hope that we'll continue to bump into each other online at Politico.com and, as always, you can reach me at pwgavin@gmail.com

That's The Way It Was And We Liked It!After the Style honored itself and its 40 years of existence, we got an email critical of the Style section from someone claiming to be a Postie (others had their doubts...) and, now, a Postie has brought to our attention this disgruntled comment to that very Hank Steuver article: Part of the current problem with Style can be shown by this article, its sloppy reporting, its sloppy style, its horrible writing, its juvenile nature, its complete amateurishness--all qualities that Ben Bradlee hates (to this day), that have destroyed Style, that readers hate (believe us), and that have contributed to the steady decline of the section. Editors: READERS DO NOT WANT TO READ BAD-WRITING STORIES LIKE THIS IN STYLE. Steuver can't seem to understand, after repeated calls and letters and complaints to the Post, that his sloppy, negative, childish writing continually turns off readers. This is not want people want to read in Style. If you wanted a good story about the Style section, Tom Zito, Stephanie Mansfield, Sally Quinn, Tom Shales, Gary Arnold, John Yardley, Richard Harrington, Eve Zibart, Judith Martin, Alan Kriegsman or Henry Allen should have written the piece--not THOSE are true, real, professional, quality Style writers!
