Hey FishbowlDC, meet Allison Mataya! Allison most recently drove the new business efforts at Arnold DC and helped launch Adcision Networks, an online luxury ad network. Prior to that, she ran the regional advertising efforts for Mercedes-Benz from Virginia to Maine for Merkley + Partners. While at Merkley + Partners in New York, Allison managed the corporate advertising efforts for Mercedes-Benz. Allison also has experience working at agencies such as Young & Rubicam and Grey Advertising on Xerox and Kraft Foods. Allison graduated from Bowdoin College with a B.A. in Art History and Government. We caught up with Mataya for a few questions:
What working journalist do you most admire and why? Stuart Elliott, he tells it like it is and has a real passion for the ad business. Proudest moment in your career? When my new business efforts resulted in making 2008 the best year on record for the Arnold DC office. What is something that most people don't know about you? I was an Olympic Development Field Hockey player. What's your guilty pleasure? Shopping for lipstick, I can't go into a CVS without buying some. What one person would you most like to interview? I would love to have had the chance to speak with David Ogilvy, I think his wisdom would serve our industry well right now. Mataya says she's highly competitive and this trait is evidenced in everything she does. Whether rooting out a big idea or finding a way to get a table on short notice at some of the best restaurants...she doesn't take no for an answer! You can catch up with Allison on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn. The Perils of Covering Congress...One reporter takes a hit following Speaker Nancy Pelosi to the House floor this weekend... other reporters just keep on going... TWT's Jon Ward to Daily CallerJon Ward, White House reporter for The Washington Times has taken a new job with Tucker Carlson's Daily Caller website. Ward announced his move via Twitter this afternoon: Good news! I've taken a new job at the Daily Caller, a new website being launched by Tucker Carlson. Brag Book Success! Wallbank to MinnPostAnother FishbowlDC "Brag Book" Success! Derek Wallbank, our very first Brag Booker has landed a new gig as MinnPost's Washington correspondent. Wallbank will replace Cynthia Dizikes, who is leaving to take a metro reporting position at the Chicago Tribune. Derek kicked off our series on September 25th after losing his job in the mass layoffs at CQ-Roll Call. CEO and Editor of MinnPost.com Joel Kramer announced Derek's new position and even plugged his "Brag Book" interview today. Click here to see the announce. Congrats to Derek! TWT Staff Meeting at 11:30 AMAnother heaping helping of the piping hot casserole of crazy coming out of The Washington Times this morning: After a press release and a memo about the press release were issued in reference to TWT's major management overhaul, an email was finally sent to staff, inviting them to Amazing. Memo after the jump. TWT's Jones Notifies Staff of Press ReleaseTWT Managing Editor David Jones finally addressed staff via below memo after "rumors and semi-accurate press information started circulating." The memo offers no more information than the release issued through Business Wire more than an hour before. Hmmm. Do you think that the "rumors and semi-accurate reporting" might stem from the fact that the Times issued a press release well before notifying their own staff? Given that a lot of rumors and semi-accurate press information is already circulating, I want to share with you all this press release which was issued this morning. I and a few other senior editors are going to be briefed in more detail this morning. Shortly after that I will convene a meeting with everyone in the newsroom to try to answer questions. Release after the jump. TWT Management to Discuss Exec. Overthrow at 10AMSources inside The Washington Times say that the paper's management team has been called together for a 10 am meeting to discuss the Moon brother's surprise overthrow of three top executives. President and publisher Thomas P. McDevitt, CFO Keith Cooperrider and Chairman Dong Moon Joo are all out according to a press release that TWT issued this morning. The release also names Jonathan Slevin as acting president and publisher. Rumors are swirling that Executive Editor John Solomon who's been in his position since January of 2008 may resign as a result of the shakeup. In my humble opinion, that would be mean huge trouble for the Times and a blow to morale that I'm not certain the newsroom could handle. According to our sources, TWT staff has not been briefed nor received any information regarding the changes or implications of the shakeup. Morning Reading List 11.09.09Good morning FishbowlDC!
