"I do think that the quality which makes a man want to write and be read is essentially a desire for self-exposure and is masochistic. Like one of those guys who has a compulsion to take his thing out and show it on the street." - James Jones

Bob Sellers: The FishbowlDC Interview

sellersmug.jpgSay hello to WTTG Fox 5's Bob Sellers.

How many suits do you own? About two dozen. They all look the same. I hardly ever wear light colored suits. I don't want to cover breaking news looking like an ice cream vendor.

What word do you routinely misspell? "Misspell." Which makes it embarrassing when I try to correct something we have on the air. I'll send a message about the misspelling by misspelling "misspell." Ironic, isn't it. (The only way I know how to spell it right here is that your question includes it.)

Did you see Brokeback Mountain? Yes. With my wife. She hasn't let me go fishing since.

Did you see The Da Vinci Code? No. I didn't even know he made movies.

What's the name of your cell phone ring? It's called, "whatever they put on it."

What time did you get up this morning? I got up about three forty five. I woke up about seven.

When did you last cry and why? Last weekend during the second half of the Skins game.

Which of the seven deadly sins are you? If you asked my wife, she'd say "sloth."

Beach, city or country? Mountains.

Would you say you're cute? Pretty? Hot? Beautiful? I think most women would call me cute, which is their socially acceptable way of saying, "you're not handsome."

What color is your bathroom? At four in the morning? A blur.

How many emails do you receive a day, roughly? About twenty. Nineteen of them are about refinancing.

What's your opinion of New York City? It's really not that new anymore.

What's your favorite letter? The Greek letter, Pi. It also < serves as a number. How many letters can claim that?

What single person played the biggest role / had the biggest influence on your journalism career? I can only think of married people.

Have you ever downloaded a podcast? If so, which one? I have, but I continue to wonder what it has to do with my feet.

Who's your all-time favorite American Idol candidate? Carrie Underwood. I like country music and she's so good that at the end of the song I'm actually happy.

When's the last time you volunteered? Where? I hosted some University of Virginia students on a tour of our studios in New York. They were extremely bright. I look forward to getting their coffee one day.

Who is your favorite active journalist? Joan Didion. Her ability to craft a sentence makes me feel like Elmo trying to perform a tracheotomy.

What did you have for breakfast? Lunch.

What's your favorite item of clothing? My favorite blue shirt -- the one my wife threw away.

What one toiletry item could you not live without? Air.

If you could have one superpower, which one would it be? To rewrite history. No, no, wait a minute. Can I change my answer?

Better role model: GIJoe? Barbie? Barbie in GI Joe's garb.

Each FishbowlDC Interview subject is asked to contribute a word to this ongoing thread. Thus far we have..."Leprechaun suits shimmer Sensenbrennerly. Never regurgitate, orginate! Ideally, chutzpah feathers one's soul melodically. Rhythmically, supergalifragilistic sounds baroque indeed nefarious but Springsteen defenestrates. Only stumblebums vote. Dirk Kempthorne squats legitimately above cavernous..." vacuity.
